In a remarkable display of solidarity, Elina Svitolina, an advocate against Russia’s actions, collaborated with her husband, Gael Monfils, for the first time on the court. In countless interviews and post-match conferences, Elina has expressed her desire to support her country. In a recent interview at Wimbledon, she went ahead to say that it is the war that has made her even stronger, both in terms of mentality and gameplay.
“I think war made me stronger and also made me mentally stronger,” Svitolina said. “Mentally I don’t take difficult situations as like a disaster, you know? There are worse things in life,” said Svitolina in the post-match interview after her victory against Iga Swiatek.
