Is Stefanos Tsitsipas' mom the unsung hero behind his and Paula Badosa's reconciliation?

When in doubt, trust your family. Isn’t that right? But what if the dynamics change a bit? Introduce a complex family setting, wherein expectations sometimes take over. That’s the kind of complexity Stefanos Tsitipas has endured. However, not everything seems dark within the family, as the Greek star’s mother recently detailed a vital intervention she made to help Tsitsipas. Quite subtly, let’s say superheroes and mothers both rescuing in a cape.

In a bid to restore his formidable form, Tsitsipas has been struggling lately. He is questing for his maiden Grand Slam title after losing the French Open and Australian Open summit clashes in 2021 and 2023 respectively, however, his efforts have bore no fruit. Professional commitments aside, the ‘Greek God of Tennis’ has faced some family drama as well. After engaging in multiple altercations with his father Apostolos, Tsitsipas split with him as a coach recently. But amid all the chaos, his relationship with Paula Badosa has ignited his morale to some extent. As it turns out though, Tsitsipas’ mother Julia Apostoli has helped their romance prevail.

Appearing on a Greek talk show ‘To Proino,’ Julia Apostoli admitted that she supported Badosa when the couple briefly broke up. After publicizing their romance in May 2023, the pair called it quits later in May 2024. However, hoping to reconcile their lost paths, Tsitsipas’ mother later stepped in and helped with their patch-up. “Stefanos is happy, that’s the most important thing. If he’s happy, I’m happy too. There was a difficult time when they broke up, but now they’re in love. I was on Paola’s side, we talked and that’s why they found each other again,” Julia said.

Tsitsipas and Badosa’s romance has been making headlines in the tennis world for quite some time. The pair, branded as ‘Tsitsidosa’, has presented a united front, both on and off the court. They minted a cool $250,000 after winning the ‘Mixed Madness’ exhibition event before the US Open. Playing in the mixed doubles together has only strengthened their bond. So much so, that their love often comes bearing tough moments when witnessing each other struggle while playing singles matches.

Paula Badosa admitted difficulty while watching Stefanos Tsitsipas complete

Power couple Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa have their respective on-court adventures. While their mixed doubles participation works all too well, the same can’t be said for their singles campaigns. Notably, the Spanish talent revealed that the couple finds it difficult to spectate each others’ showdowns. Talking in a post-match presser at the US Open, Badosa admitted that she struggled to bring herself to the Greek superstar’s matches at times.

She said, “We suffer; there are some moments I cannot even watch. It’s tough to follow it because, also, we’re used to being on the court, so we control a little bit of the situation, but from the outside, we can’t do anything. So now I understand, also, the coaches, how much they suffer outside.”
