Polish superstar Iga Swiatek has been sensational at the French Open, as she won the title pretty convincingly. In the final, she beat Coco Gauff in straight sets to win her second French Open title and her sixth consecutive title this season.

Meanwhile, she has also been pretty vocal about the current conflict between Ukraine and Russia. During her winning speech, she passionately talked about Ukraine, which garnered massive reactions from the crowd.

After receiving the French Open trophy, she thanked her team, sponsors, and the organizers of the French Open. Then, she ended her speech by showing support to her neighboring country, Ukraine, during a tough period. “I want to say something to Ukraine. Stay strong, the world is still there,” she said.

After hearing her words, the crowd at the Phillipe Chatrier stadium showered her a massive round of applause. “The war is still there and people are suffering. Many players have taken off the ribbons and there is huge discussion about next tournaments and points. It’s not about that but the whole situation there and I want people to be aware,” she further added.

Meanwhile, former Ukrainian tennis player Alexandr Dolgopolov thanked Swiatek for showing support for Ukraine, as he tweeted, Congratulations @iga_swiatek and thank you.

Earlier, after winning the Italian Open, Swiatek criticized all the players for taking off their Ukrainian ribbons during matches. She felt that many players didn’t participate in the movement well enough. It is also worth noting that Swiatek has been wearing the ribbon throughout the French Open tournament.

Swiatek absolutely destroyed Coco Gauff in the final

Meanwhile, in today’s French Open final, Swiatek took just 1 hour and 8 minutes to beat the 18-year-old American tennis star, Coco Gauff; the final score was 6-1 6-3. After losing the first set, Gauff did break the Pole early in the second set. However, Swiatek was constantly pushing the American and in the end, she won the set, 6-3. After the match, Gauff broke down in tears, as Swiatek showed support for the American.

With this win, Swiatek now equaled Venus Williams’ record of the longest winning streak (35) since 2000. Also, this was Swiatek’s 6th consecutive title win this season and third consecutive one on clay.
