Patrick McEnroe says the seeding rule at Roland Garros is inefficient
Venting out his frustrations on Twitter, the former Davis Cup captain said,
“I ask you right now when is the French Open gonna finally get it together and do their seeds the way they do it at Wimbledon, which accentuates the success of that player on that particular surface. Most of the tour is played on a hard court. Very little is played on grass, a little bit more on clay. That’s why they need to change the system, not because of the older player or someone out with injury; in the case, this year of Rafael Nadal has dropped in the rankings. But because the surface is so extraordinary, and it makes such a huge difference,” McEnroe said on Twitter.

“Daniil Medvedev seeded no.2? That is ridiculous. He deserves to be seeded no.2 at every hard-court tournament and certainly at Wimbledon. Of course, he won’t be seeded there this year because he won’t be playing. That’s another topic but come on French Open, it’s time to go with this seeding system. Enough already, we had Nadal Djokovic last year in the semis, one of the greatest matches ever in the semis. Tennis needs it in the final. Now, we could have Djokovic Nadal in the quarter-finals. Come on, let’s get it together, finally,” the American added further.
Who are the favorites for the French Open 2022?
In his Holding Court Podcast, McEnroe picked Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek as the favorites for the French Open. However, he also thought Alcaraz could surprise a lot of players in this tournament.
Swiatek was also the unanimous choice among pundits and ex-players for securing this year’s Suzanne-Lenglen cup. Based on her current record, it was obvious that the record-breaking Pol will be an overwhelming favorite.

It was a similar story on the men’s side, as people picked Carlos Alcaraz to make an impact because of his current form. However, the sensational Spaniard is yet to prove himself in a Grand Slam. Meanwhile, after winning the Italian Open, Novak Djokovic automatically became the favorite for the Musketeers’ cup.
