Sandra Dueck, an avid pickleball player, has taken legal action against the City of Vancouver after a mishap on a makeshift pickleball court led to a broken wrist. Dueck’s lawsuit, filed in B.C. Supreme Court, alleges that the incident occurred at Jericho Beach Park, where the city had converted former tennis courts into pickleball courts as part of their “pop-up pickleball” project, creating 30 temporary pickleball courts on nine tennis courts citywide.

In the lawsuit, Dueck claims that on the day of her injury, the city had lowered the tennis net by approximately 25 centimeters, which separated the smaller pickleball courts. On May 13, as Dueck was playing her game, she took a step backwards to make a shot, only to have her foot catch on the loose net. Despite her attempts to regain balance using her other foot, it, too, slid on the loose net, ultimately causing her to fall and break her wrist.

Thus, there have been many instances where the game has been listed to injure people. While this time, it was due to a tennis court, there have been certain instances where physiotherapists have even come ahead to warn of the possible injuries that can be caused due to the game.
