Despite missing many tournaments earlier this season, the Laver Cup holds a special place in Nadal’s heart. He was last seen in the tournament during Federer’s farewell match, which witnessed a lot of emotions. A few hours ago, the official Twitter handle of the tournament revealed that Nadal will take the flight to Berlin to play in the Laver Cup.

He will represent Team Europe in the tournament and has been handpicked by Bjorn Borg as ‘captain’s pick.’ Expressing his emotions about being back to the prestigious event, Nadal said that he is happy to play in the Laver Cup and has ‘really special memories’ from Federer’s farewell edition in 2022. While Nadal will return to the event after a gap of 1 year, another player hinted about her return recently.

Shelton is in the same quarter as Daniil Medvedev. The Russian star is known to struggle on clay, which is not among his favorite surfaces. Factually speaking, he has never been past the fourth round of this tournament. Thus, with form by his side, Shelton will hope to get the better of the Russian star, if they do manage to face in the tournament. Furthermore, a potential quarterfinal battle against Stefanos Tsitsipas will await Shelton in Madrid.

Despite being handed a relatively easy draw, Shelton will look to take it one step at a time. Can he succeed at the Madrid Open and win the biggest title of his career? Let us know your views in the comments below.
