Danielle Collins is on fire in her last year on the Tour. During the massive runs for the title in Madrid and Rome, the WTA star was caught in moments where she lost her cool because of disturbance from the crowd. Although the fans may have seen it as a regular response from Danimal, analysts drew learnings from it, which may prove to be a hindrance to the veteran’s future opportunities.

Recently, former tennis player Sam Querrey shared the mic with Caitlin Thompson in the latest episode of ‘Racquet’s Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast’. Talking about the different aspects revolving around Danielle Collins and her form, Querrey suggested an odd reality about the veteran.

“I think Collins thrives in an environment where the crowd’s against her. I think she wants to play in that more than like, the crowd for her,” he said, mentioning how the 30-year-old goes all in when the crowd is carrying a negative air towards her. The former pro said this in response to the recent incidents that occurred in Madrid and Rome where she indulged in a heated argument against the hecklers.

To highlight the dangers that could fall in line because of this issue, Caitlin Thompson came forward to drop the example of Novak Djokovic‘s massive run for the US Open title back in 2021. “She comes back to the US Open and everybody’s like, on their feet cheering for her. Like that would be tough. It’d be really interesting. Maybe she’ll have a Novak moment. And she’ll just like, absorb the love, and like, it’ll freak her out,” she said.

Djokovic notably had a famous racquet-throwing moment at the US Open in 2021 when he lost the first set to Daniil Medvedev. He received a code violation early in the second set when he destroyed his racquet, with the crowd disapproving heavily. The Serb was looking forward to a calendar grand slam year where he had immense support from the crowd at the major event. While lack of aggression also becomes a hindrance sometimes, the tennis star faced a setback defeat in the final against Medvedev.

While the world is already aware of the results on Djokovic’s end, it still remains to be seen if the comparison applies to Danielle Collins as well.

When Danielle Collins lost her cool in Madrid and Rome

It hasn’t been long since a glimpse of Danielle Collins’ angry mode caught the attention of fans on social media. The WTA star, who usually appears with a smile in whatever event she plays in, was seen lashing out at a heckler after giving enough moments for him to realize and shut up.

This happened during her R3 match against Jaqueline Cristian at the Madrid Open. There were numerous hecklers among the crowd present in the arena. While Collins tried to be as ignorant as possible, one of them crossed the limits and therefore the WTA veteran was compelled to react.

“You come out in here and play, you do what I do, okay? Have a little more respect,” she said, teaching him a lesson about respecting the ones who constitute the international events. In Rome, when she missed her serve and the crowd made a loud noise, Collins yelled, “What? What?” and continued playing.

While the levels of her dominance seemed to skyrocket in the particular match, Caitlin Thompson’s equation seems to be justified enough.
