During an official interview, Michael Russell spoke about his key contributions to turning Taylor into a better player in 2024. “I’m definitely more focused on the process-oriented goals and just making sure Taylor’s getting more work in the gym and faster on the court, and just becoming more of a complete player all around. I think the results will speak for themselves and they will come. That’s been a focus that I’ve been on since the beginning since we first started working together at the end of 2021,” he revealed.

For the unversed, Fritz and Michael’s partnership started way back in 2021. At that time, Fritz was just 24 years old and was struggling to make an impact on ATP tours. Under Russell’s guidance, however, he’s become one of the best American tennis players in recent years. He succeeded in cracking into the top 10 two years ago. But 2024 has been something else!

Apart from making it to the finals of the US Open and the ATP Finals, Taylor Fritz also won two championships this year. He lifted the ATP 250 titles in Delray Beach and Eastbourne this season. Not to mention his solid singles record of 53-23. It will be intriguing to see whether their partnership will result in Fritz winning his first-ever Grand Slam in 2025.

The next season will begin with the Australian Open where Fritz couldn’t move past the QF round earlier this year. He failed to overcome the challenge of Novak Djokovic who beat him 7-6, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Do you think the 27-year-old will clinch the trophy in Australia this time? Let us know in the comments below.
