Taylor Fritz became the talk of the town following his breakout 2024 season. He showcased his hunger to move forward and achieve what no American man had since countryman Andy Roddick‘s 2003 US Open win. Although he lost to Jannik Sinner in the US Open final, he is looking to carry the momentum as the new season approaches. Ahead of the season-commencing hardcourt campaign in Australia, Serena Williams’ ex-coach is quite optimistic about Fritz’s prospects.
The 27-year-old started the 2024 season strong by finishing as the quarterfinalist in Melbourne and then claiming the Delray Beach Open title. His grasscourt session replicated similar results. He reached the last eight at the Wimbledon Championships but failed to dig deeper as he fell to Italian Lorenzo Musetti. However, Fritz was hardly denied at his home slam in New York. A streak of impressive wins led him straight to the summit clash, invoking a sense of hope in the home crowd to finally have a shot at ridding America of its GS drought. Unfortunately, fate had a different plan mapped out.
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner concluded his run in straight sets in the final to claim his second overall Major for the year. Disheartening, however, Fritz did not shy from trying his luck again at the ATP Finals, but only to finish runner-up to the Italian once again at the year-end event. Regardless, he proved a point. Fritz is capable of winning a Major and Rennae Stubbs agrees. During a conversation on her ‘Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast’, the Aussie noted Fritz has a significant chance of advancing deep in Melbourne and lifting a Major in 2025.

She said, “I do think that he is going to be a threat at the Australian Open. It’s a good court for him, he likes the heat, grew up in California you know Melbourne’s pretty similar. I think he is going to be a real threat and I think he really learned a lot about himself and what he’s capable of at the US Open. I think he is capable of winning a Slam next year.”

Whether Fritz wins a Major next season is a riddle only time will solve. He will be motivated though, seeing as he did not take kindly to his US Open loss to Sinner.
Taylor Fritz believes ‘he let people down’ after failing to capture his dream at the US Open
American superstar Taylor Fritz was distraught upon falling short of his title quest in New York. After all, every home fan hoped that he would succeed and clinch the Slam for the first time in 21 years. Following his heartbreaking defeat to Jannik Sinner, Fritz told reporters he felt like he ‘let a lot of people down’ with his ‘unsettling’ finish to the two-week Flushing Meadows campaign.

He said, “I just would have liked to have played better and given myself a better chance. It’s really disappointing right now. I feel like American fans have been wanting a men’s champion for a long time.” For those unaware, Fritz became the first US man since Roddick at Wimbledon in 2009 to reach a Slam final.
With the 2025 season merely days away, Fritz will look to enhance his performance if he wishes to thwart Sinner’s title defense in Melbourne. However, before that, he has to finish with his commitments at the season-commencing United Cup, where he will be representing Team USA.
