Can Stefanos Tsitsipas break free from family drama and reclaim his top form in 2025?

Stefanos Tsistipas and Paula Badosa‘s love story seldom misses hitting the mark. The couple has been making waves in the sport following their link-up in 2023. While the duo often support each other in times of distress, they also extend their heartfelt efforts towards each other. Recently, Tsitsipas has come up with a perfect way to further impress Badosa – all the while iterating advice to his younger brother, Petros Tsitsipas. How?

Badosa and Tsitsipas’ season has been a total rollercoaster. At least for Badosa, it has been. “a bit of a rollercoaster this year”. On one hand, the Spaniard hardly took her foot off the gas during her comeback season – having contemplated retiring in May following her chronic back injury. She lifted the Citi Open title and produced noteworthy results for the WTA, however, she couldn’t make way for the Finals in Riyadh.

Meanwhile, the Greek sensation suffered an unfortunate drop in form on the Grand Slam stage and enjoyed modest success on the tour-level events. As a result, the former world no. 3 failed to qualify for the season-ending ATP Finals, thus ending his five-year streak in Turin. However, in all this, Tsitsipas hasn’t failed to offer undying support for his younger brother. After Petros decided to move out of Madrid and set camp someplace, to start afresh – the Greek player had some words of encouragement for the upcoming star.

Taking to X, the 26-year-old replied under a post wherein details of his brother’s future plans were highlighted. Notably iterating his message in Spanish, Stefanos Tsitsipas wrote, “You have work to do, brother… Don’t act crazy!”  Using Spanish to dish out a piece of wise advice must have gotten Badosa’s attention. For those unaware, Petros Tsitsipas has mined $420,957 in total prize money from his singles and doubles tour-level matches and, achieved a career-high rank of 727 in 2021.

That’s not all. The brothers even teamed for a doubles blockbuster on the ATP. While their performance went fairly smoothly, they faced problems after breaking multiple code violations in Paris.

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Petros Tsitsipas rack up $23k in fines at the French Open

Stefanos Tsitsipas and his younger brother were slapped with heavy fines during their doubles appearance at the season’s French Open. The duo managed to rack up a massive fine of $23k in just over three matches. The Greek star reached the last eight in both the singles and the doubles categories in Paris. However, the duo was awarded with five code violations amounting to fines after being coached from the stands.

Have an interesting take?

Although coaching was permitted by the ATP this year, the brothers received infractions for commuting with their team in a way that isn’t permitted. Moreover, Tsitsipas received a $8k penalty for a coaching violation during his quarterfinal encounter against Carlos Alcaraz, which he later lost in straight sets. This wasn’t the first time either. The former world no. 3 faced similar issues during his Australian Open semifinal in 2022, wherein his father Apostoles’ chattering led to controversial moments in Melbourne.

However, the Greek sensation parted ways with his father as a coach after bearing enough of his family’s complex dynamics. While Tsistipas hasn’t escaped the shadow of his former self yet, chances are that he scripts a turnaround in 2025, starting at the Australian Open.
