Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa never cease to surprise us with delightful adventures. The power couple, who have been making rounds in the tennis world for quite some time, have finally decided to furnish fans with a much-awaited update. The only question is, can they keep with their commitment this time?
Both players have announced their run in the mixed doubles at the US Open. After previously withdrawing from the exciting match-up at the 2023 Wimbledon and the season’s French Open, chances are they won’t back down this time. And there’s a good reason for that. The tennis couple has proved themselves to be a force to be reckoned with against formidable foes in New York!
While participating in the ‘Mixed Madness’ exhibition event ahead of the hardcourt slam at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, the duo pocketed a hefty $250K pay cheque after slamming fellow players’ challenges. With this, the pair is slated to take on the courts in New York in the coming week. For those unaware, the highly-anticipated expo saw several friendly faces, including the riveting team-ups of Coco Gauff/Ben Shelton, Naomi Osaka/Nick Kyrgios, and Taylor Fritz/Amanda Anisimova.

While the couple’s mixed doubles participation sounds fun, it is still unsure how ‘Greek God’ Tsitsipas will manage his on-court demeanor. The former World No. 3 recently split with his father Apostolos as a coach after rising tensions between the duo led to some spats, compromising Tsitsipas’ emotional bandwidth. Though he has enjoyed modest success this year, the Greek is suffering at the North American hardcourt swing, having faced premature exits at both the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Masters.

Meanwhile, Badosa has let her racket do the talking in Cincy this week. The Spaniard reached the event’s last four, marking her first semifinal appearance since 2022 Indian Wells. Despite delivering impressive results, the young talent was subjected to criticism after she was publicly captured with her lover at the event.

Badosa has taken shots at a fan who questioned the Spaniard for failing to keep her relationship with Tsitsipas private. This, notably happened after the couple briefly broke up this spring and when they reconciled, Badosa vowed to keep their romance off-camera. However, things quickly changed when the couple was recorded holding hands during a cool-down at the Cincinnati Open’s gym. Though the adorable moment amassed likes from several fans, one tennis enthusiast criticized the Spaniard for not living up to her words.

“When they got back together they said, ‘I mean, it’s our private life. I think one of the things that we didn’t like is that it was very public, so now we want to keep it to ourselves.’ So why don’t they,” read the user’s comments. This wasn’t taken kindly by the 26-year-old. She was quick to clap back at the fan’s remarks saying, “Unfortunately we didn’t know there were cameras there. I just finished my match, nobody was in the gym, we were just stretching and chatting after my win. So please, before all this judgement and talking inform yourself and chill a bit. Thanks.”
Naturally, the duo’s flashy presence in the media is bound to gain them some negative comments from naysayers. However, if the couple manages to bag the mixed doubles title at the Flushing Meadows event, it will go a long way to shut critics and showcase their on-court formidability!
