Novak Djokovic is currently weathering a storm that has come up suddenly in his career. The 2024 season didn’t start well for the Serbian, and he recently parted ways with his long-time coach, Goran Ivanisevic. Can he yet again become the storm himself and dominate the tennis world? Serena Williams‘ former coach Rennae Stubbs believes there’s something tumultuous going on in Novak Djokovic’s life at the moment.
But amid all these troubles, Djokovic is all set to create another historic feat in his career in just a few days from now. On Sunday, Novak Djokovic is all set to surpass Roger Federer‘s record and become the oldest world number 1 in the PIF ATP rankings at the age of 36 years and 321 days. Rennae Stubbs was recently joined by Andrea Petkovic in the ‘Racquet’s Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast.’ And here’s what Stubbs had to say on Djokovic’s current situation.

During her conversation with the German former professional tennis player, Andrea Petkovic, Stubbs opened up about her thoughts on Novak Djokovic’s recent announcement. Rennae Stubbs said that after seeing Djokovic split with his long-time partners including the management company and Ivanisevic, she felt “There’s something tumultuous going on in Novak’s life.” She went on to add that although she doesn’t know what exactly he’s going through at the moment, Djokovic’s cryptic tweet on Ivanisevic has certainly raised her eyebrows.
She felt those comments sounded like “slight little passive-aggressive” words towards Goran Ivanisevic. Stubbs believes the Croatian coach wasn’t too happy with these comments from Djokovic. However, she admitted that these are completely her own assumptions as she hasn’t talked with either of them. But Stubbs strongly believes, “There is something that’s really going on in that camp, that’s very tumultuous. Something is not going right in Novak Djokovic’s world right now.” But she strongly believes he will make a strong comeback.

But will the age allow him to take on the rising stars of the tennis world as he has done throughout his career? Recently Rennae Stubbs was also seen dissecting Novak Djokovic’s journey with his serve during a podcast with Petkovic.
Rennae Stubbs says Djokovic’s serve was “pretty sh*t” during his early days
The 53-year-old Australian tennis coach said, “Novak’s serve when he first started out was pretty sh*t. He would double-fault, his elbow was too low, and there were a lot of things going on, something I think Goran’s really helped him with. But he’s an amazing spot server.” Talking more about Novak Djokovic’s serve, she reflected on the improvement she has seen over the years in the Serbian.

“You look at Novak’s serve now, ‘Would I teach Novak’s service motion? Absolutely not!’ I don’t think it’s a great service motion. But he has figured out a way to hit his spots and he aces more than a lot of people do,” Stubbs. Since the announcement of the departure of Ivanisevic from Novak Djokovic’s team, there have been multiple names that have come up on the table to replace the Croatian. Who do you think can perfectly fill up Goran Ivanisevic’s shoes?
