The 2024 French Open is in full swing and the excitement is budding around with each passing day. Coming into the later segments of the tournaments, only the best, the ones who have shown immense potential on the holy clay of Paris are now remaining and are willing to give everything it takes to lay their hands on the trophy. Sleep, rest, and everything is put to one side and both the players and fans are equally giving their everything. The same thing was witnessed when Novak Djokovic got one one-on-one against Lorenzo Musetti.

A match that went well past 3 had all the drama and action and it was the ‘Djoker’ who finally came out on top and laid his hands on a well-deserved win. However, he was not alone. Accompanying him were his supporters who joined the court and many others, who were not present there but made sure to stay till the very last. One amongst them was Coco Gauff‘s head coach, Brad Gilbert. While being active on X (formerly Twitter) throughout the Novak Djokovic was asked by a fan why he is still awake at 4:30 AM despite Coco’s match being just a few hours away.

Replying to this, Gilbert suggested that 4:30 AM was certainly late but with Gauff’s match being the next day, the wake-up call was for 3:00 AM. He further concluded by suggesting that sleep during grand slams is a very overrated thing as all the drama, excitement and fun happens. “430am is late ⏰ its game day 3am wake up call ☎️sleep 🛌 very overrated during slams, said Gilbert in his tweet.

This was just one of his many tweets throughout the match. Apparently, he was constantly following the match while offering his criticism to his online fanbase as he looked to express his thoughts.

Thus, with all the drama and excitement following around, Brad Gilbert suggested that the time was certainly late but certainly sleep is something that can be compromised. Djokovic’s match went for more than 4 hours, well after 3 AM. While the likes of Coco Gauff’s coach were up for it, there were many who clearly did not like the way things went.

Taking to their social media platforms, the likes of Boris Becker, who once coached Novak Djokovic and Rennae Stubbs, the former coach of Serena Williams were clearly not happy with the scheduling thing. Mark , you make very good point ! Think it’s mad and frankly unprofessional from the organisers to allow matches past 1am …which other sport has to deal with something similar? Maybe boxing  but they have 1 fight every 6 month !” said Becker while lashing his frustration on his social media.

Following him was Rennae Stubbs who suggested that the night matches in Paris are dumb while posting a photo of Novak Djokovic. “Night matches in Paris are dumb,” said Stubbs who was also not very happy with the way the organizers dealt with the scheduling of the match.

Thus, while there were some who were actively following the matches, there were some who were clearly not happy with how the scheduling thing was done. What are your thoughts on this? Do let us know in the comments below!
