It’s the end of an era. Earlier today, Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-serving monarch in the United Kingdom’s history, passed away peacefully at Balmoral. Aged 96, she adored the throne in 1952 after the passing away of her father. Subsequently, she reigned for 70 long years.

As the news of her passing away broke out, the entire world poured in their tributes. Additionally, the tennis fraternity also paid their tributes to the longest-serving British monarch. Amongst them were the likes of Billie Jean King, Maria Sharapova, and Eugenie Bouchard.

Tennis stars react to Queen Elizabeth II’s death

Tennis legend, Billie Jean King took to Twitter to pay her respect to Queen Elizabeth II. She said, “I am saddened to learn of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. For 70 years, her leadership, impact, and influence on the United Kingdom and the entire global community has been immense. I met her in 2010 at Wimbledon, and it was a special moment for me.”

Further, she added, “She was the longest reigning British monarch in history, the only woman from the Royal Family to serve in the armed forces, and a respected leader around the world. She earned her place in history, and she will be missed.”

Additionally, the likes of Maria Sharapova and Eugenie Bouchard paid tributes to the longest-serving British monarch via a story on their official Instagram handle.

Further, Roger Federer also paid his tribute by sharing a story on his official Instagram handle. “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Her Royal Majesty. Her elegance, grace and loyalty to her duty will live on in history,” Federer said.

Recently, the 23-time Grand Slam champion called curtains on her illustrious career. Her third-round defeat at the 2022 US Open was the last match of her professional tennis career.

Subsequently, the WTA shared a clip in Billie Jean’s King voice, praising the American legend for all the glorious memories. It said, “You weren’t like the other kids, you broke the mold of the future generations. Fearless. You inspired them to dream big, to follow their own path, to be exceptional, and to not be the exception.”
