The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are fast approaching. With just months left for the iconic showdown, top athletes across the globe are vying for the qualification spots on offer. Meanwhile, tennis will also feature at the Paris Olympics. Reintroduced as an official sport of the Olympics in 1988, fans have been fortunate to witness intriguing tennis action at the Olympics. However, Serena Williams’ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou had a different view on the connection between tennis and the Olympic Games.
Mouratoglou, the legendary French coach, has trained some top athletes in his career. Off late, he shares views about the various happenings in the tennis world. Here’s what he said about the sport in the Olympics, which drew a sharp reaction from Serena’s last coach, Rennae Stubbs.

Yesterday, Mouratoglou took to Instagram to share his opinion on why tennis players don’t feel the connection with the Olympic Games. Although tennis has been around in the Olympics for quite some time now, the legendary French coach feels that history is yet to be written down for the sport.

Elaborating on this, he said, “There is no real connection between tennis and Olympic games. A lot of tennis players don’t feel that it’s such an important event for tennis. Initially, tennis was at the Olympics and then it get out. And finally, tennis was reintroduced.”
Further, he added, “As a consequence, there is no history between tennis and Olympic games. They feel that a Grand Slam is 100 times more important for a tennis player than the Olympic games.”

However, Serena’s last coach, Stubbs, had different views. She took to Twitter where she shared a few moments from from the event while emphasizing it. She said, “here’s a few photos of recent gold medal winners at the Olympics. You tell me it means nothing to them.”

American tennis stars have been largely successful at the Olympic Games. From Andre Agassi to Serena Williams, these legends have made their country proud.
