At this year’s Wimbledon Championships, Novak Djokovic cruised past every player in the tournament to secure his spot in another final. However, not all of his matches proceeded smoothly. Playing against Jannik Sinner in the semifinal, Djokovic had his hands full with the young player. During the match, Djokovic received a hindrance penalty, which led to an argument with the umpire. The incident reminded viewers of the time Serena Williams fought with the chair umpire in the 2018 US Open final, which became a big controversy on and off the court.
Along with the Serena Williams remembrance, fans also discussed Rafael Nadal in the situation. The Spaniard usually remains calm, but has had his fair share of incidents with umpires. Remembering one specific moment, his name was dragged into the situation as well.

As Djokovic played against Sinner for a chance at his eighth Wimbledon title, he was left fuming during the second set. The chair umpire called a violation on Djokovic when he let out a loud grunt after returning a backhand. After that, he also received a violation for taking too long to serve. Both instances infuriated the Serb, and he argued with the umpire for the first violation.
Sports journalist, Sam Street, brought in the argument of Williams’ outburst in 2018. He said if Djokovic behaved in a similar manner and spoke the same words, he would be in all media outlets and defamed for his antics. “Imagine if Novak Djokovic tells the umpire: “You will never again set foot on a court of mine.” Can’t see it getting the same reaction from the media as Serena did.”

Street is referencing the support for Williams post the 2018 US Open. Almost all media outlets chastised the umpire and dubbed him racist and sexist after Williams’ heated argument. As the discussion went viral on social media, Rafael Nadal also became a prime focus of the discussion.
Rafael Nadal joins the fray
As the argument heated up on Twitter, many fans started giving the example of Rafael Nadal in the same situation. Serena Williams said that the umpire won’t step foot in her matches again. Rafael Nadal made a similar statement during a match in the 2017 French Open. He also asked the ATP to not have Carlos Bernades umpire his matches. Fans remembered the instance and brought it into the argument as well.
A user brought up the Spaniard’s name, changing the direction of the discussion.
Remember when Rafa asks ATP for Carlos didnt judge his games?

One fans said that Nadal threatening the umpire was the same as Serena Williams.
Or Nadal. Didn't he threaten an umpire for being given a time violation also?

Another fan dug up the moment and recalled Nadal’s words, which were eventually followed by the ATP doing his bidding.
The way Nadal behaved with Carlos Bernades and said he will never umpire his match again and the ATP tour actually didn't make him the chair umpire for another Nadal match for years.

Another fan brought up his name when discussing the situation.
Rafa said the same thing to an umpire.

Sam Street replied to a comment with the incredulous fact that Nadal is rarely given a time violation.
Hard to believe that Rafa going for the towel every 30-40 never constituted a time violation.
