Tennis hasn’t seen any major tweaks in its traditional format ever since its inception. However, the tennis community saw a radical innovation in the game when the Ultimate Tennis Showdown was introduced by Serena Williams‘ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou. With a shorter, action-packed round-robin format, the legendary tennis coach established the unique tennis league, a few seasons back.

Now, after some successful initial editions, the revolutionary tennis event is once again underway in Los Angeles, with a number of tennis stars like Frances Tiafoe participating in it. Speaking about the innovative format of the league, the American tennis player revealed how he is loving the ‘spirit’ of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown.

In the fast-paced and innovative format of the UTS, the current world no. 10 was up against his compatriot, Ben Shelton. With a stellar display of his prowess, Frances Tiafoe outperformed the debutant in a thrilling encounter, 2-1 (7-13, 15-8, 15-13, 10-16). After his remarkable victory, the American tennis star candidly opened up about how his love for the unique tennis league.

It was brought to light by the official Instagram page of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown, which shared a video clip of the conversation between Tiafoe and Mouratoglou. The ATP player said, “I love this idea. The format and stuff, I f*cking love it! So fun man! We play a point, there’s a music going like you feel you always feel into it.”

Tiafoe gushed about how both the players and the spectators are vibing to the music being played during their matches. It wouldn’t have been possible in the otherwise quiet traditional format of tennis. He added, “Sometimes in tennis, get so quiet and then crowd’s waiting for something. Now the music is gone. But people are just into it.”

Taking note of his assertions, the legendary coach revealed how he is further planning to bring more changes to the game.

During the back-and-forth conversation, the French tennis coach argued that there are still a number of things in the revolutionary structure that need to be done. He said, “For me, it’s not enough. So I’m going to make sure it’s more tomorrow. No, I’m serious.”

Tiafoe, on the other hand, was already taken aback by those bold assertions as he said, “Are you serious?”

In his response, Mouratoglou made his stance clear that he is keen to bring more modifications to the already innovative league. He said, “100% serious.”
