Before Carlos Alcaraz plays his first ever Grand Slam final at the US Open, Serena Williams’ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, talked about his semi-final match against the 24-year-old American Frances Tiafoe. Notably, Alcaraz beat Tiafoe in the semis of the US Open in five sets and both players gave their all. In the end, Alcaraz overpowered the American player to reach his first Major final.

Meanwhile, Mouratoglou recently shared a video on his social media where he talked about a few reasons why Alcaraz was able to beat Tiafoe.

Earlier, the French coach took to Instagram and shared some footage of the match, which includes one incredible forehand played by Alcaraz. Mouratoglou mainly talked about three things, which include huge power, great hands, and super speed; Alcaraz was able to manifest all these things.

“The combination of huge power, great hands, and super speed is what makes those guys so good and unpredictable,” Mouratoglou wrote in the caption of his Instagram post.  

In the video, he explained Alcaraz’s great hands made Tiafoe come forward quite often. Then, the Spaniard’s tremendous power moved the American backward. In the end, the combination of athleticism and touch helped Alcaraz to win crucial points in the match. Even though Tiafoe made a great comeback in the fourth set, he could not match Alcaraz’s energy in the fifth set. Hence, the American lost the match against the Spaniard.

The 19-year-old Spaniard, Carlos Alcaraz, has had an incredible tournament, as he will be playing his first Grand Slam final against the Norwegian Casper Ruud. Safe to say, Alcaraz had to work way harder to reach the finals in comparison to Ruud. However, the World no.7, Ruud played great tennis as well to reach his second Grand Slam final of the year.

In the round of 16, Alcaraz played for 3 hours and 54 minutes against Marin Cilic, and then in the quarter-final, the Spaniard played 5 hours and 15 minutes to beat Jannik Sinner. In the semis, the 19-year-old played for 4 hours and 19 minutes. Safe to say the Spaniard doesn’t mind playing long matches; however, it could be a big drawback for Alcaraz as fatigue could ruin his chances in the final.

Despite that, Alcaraz will still be the favorite to win the match. However, Ruud might surprise a few people in the final with his tenacious game. Meanwhile, this will be their second meeting in a final on US soil, as they faced each other in the Miami Open final earlier this year. In that match, Alcaraz beat the Norwegian player with ease. It will be interesting to see if Ruud can avenge his loss.
