Their rankings now reflect their determination to end the United States’ Grand Slam drought, a development recognized by Gilbert.

In a post on his official X account, Coco Gauff’s coach mentioned that four American men are now comfortably seated in the Top 15. The former World No. 4 expressed pride in this achievement, following his remarks with a series of emojis.

For the uninitiated, three of these four American players have seen their rankings improve due to their participation in the Canadian Open. Compatriots Fritz and Korda faced off in the second round, with the latter emerging victorious. Despite losing 40 points, Fritz moved up to World No. 12, taking Tommy Paul’s spot after Paul dropped 310 points due to his defeat by Brandon Nakashima in Montreal.

Furthermore, Sebastian Korda enjoyed a rise in rankings after defeating Alexander Zverev at the hardcourt tournament, gaining 355 points and securing the World No. 15 position after previously being ranked No. 18. Meanwhile, Ben Shelton’s ranking remained unchanged, with only a slight 5-point gain from his Montreal campaign.

Gauff, on the other hand, has struggled to find success at the WTA Toronto. The World No. 2 suffered a disappointing loss to rising Russian star Diana Shnaider. She later shared her thoughts on the setback.

Fans expected Coco Gauff to bounce back quickly after her unsuccessful Olympic campaign. However, in an unexpected turn of events, the American faced another disappointing outcome. In the second round of the Canadian Open, the American was thrashed by Diana Shnaider in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. Later, the 20-year-old highlighted the cascade of failures that led to her premature exit.

She said, “I wasn’t in the best shape. I had my chances but I quickly got frustrated and started making mistakes. Felt like a lot of my mistakes were on shots that I think are more my strong point. I missed a lot of backhands. I felt the mental and physical tiredness of playing the Olympic event and coming here right after.”

With this, it is uncertain what can be expected of Gauff at the US Open this year. Considering she is the slam’s defending champion, the American will likely feel the expectations and pressure getting to her. However, in hopes of conjuring some noteworthy results before the Flushing Meadows event, she will take on to the courts of Cincinnati next.
