Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa was spotted breaking down on the court in happy tears. After her chronic back injury almost ended her career, Badosa demonstrated that she was not one to give up easily. While sharing immense confidence in her talent, Badosa showcased her gratitude for her family and boyfriend with an emotional message for them.

Badosa defeated Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic to earn her career’s fourth title in Washington DC yesterday. She won the match 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, despite two rain delays. This victory was especially meaningful for Badosa, who had suffered from chronic back pain leading to a stress fracture last year. This injury forced her to retire from the 2023 Wimbledon and end her season abruptly. Given her struggles with health and her professional career, Badosa’s latest DC Open victory was nothing less than an elixir for reviving her career.

After her victory, Badosa spent time with her family and expressed gratitude to her parents and boyfriend for their unwavering support during her challenging days. In a press conference, Badosa said “Yeah, it’s the first thing I did on court. I called my family and Stefanos, of course, because I know they’re always there for me. They’ve been in the tough moments. They’ve seen me very, very down this last year. I wanted to live the moments with them because of course without them I wouldn’t be here because they support me every day 24/7.”

Badosa’s revelations about her back pain were truly a saddening experience for her followers. Despite saying “it’s manageable”, Badosa revealed “there are days” when she feels “worse than others.” She said, “there are other days when it’s tough, but I also control a lot of the tournaments I play, the days I train, and the days I have off. I like going to the gym, I like working hard, but there are days when I can’t do that. So I’m managing it very well. I may take more days off than I would like, but that’s the only way.”

Now I’m back in the fourth round and playing at a good level again. Sometimes when I came back at the beginning of the year I also suffered a lot, my level wasn’t there. I still feel far away, but to see myself back here, it means a lot,” she said.
