Novak Djokovic etched his name in the history books after he claimed his 24th Grand Slam in his career at the US Open, a feat that no other ATP player has been able to ever achieve. Despite all the success he has achieved, many, including the likes of Serena Williams‘ former coach Rennae Stubbs believe that his titles are still not enough to join Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal as iconic figures in tennis. She suggested that Novak’s motivation to win the trophies comes as he wishes to match the popularity of the other two tennis greats.

However, furthering the discussion, Chris Evert, another prominent figure in the sport, offered her views on the same. Despite being an ardent Roger Federer fan, she spoke highly about the Serbian legend.

In tennis, discussions about Novak Djokovic‘s relentless quest for trophies often lead to passionate debates. Recently, Rennae Stubbs sparked controversy by suggesting that Djokovic’s determination to surpass the likes of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal comes from the fact that he may never achieve the same level of popularity as the Swiss and the Spaniard. However, tennis legend Chris Evert offered a different perspective.

Evert, known for her wisdom both on and off the court, emphasized that Djokovic’s motivation should not be the sole focus of the conversation. Instead, she highlighted the remarkable achievements and records that Djokovic has accumulated on his journey to greatness. “To me, it doesn’t really matter where his motivation to win comes from, the fact is, he’s passing the other two and should be admired for his achievements and his records….,” mentioned Chris Evert in her tweet.

Evert’s stance is clear: Djokovic deserves admiration and respect, regardless of the source of his motivation. Her comments clearly part ways with the statement given by Rennae Stubbs as she offers her two cents on the same. It is no secret that Chris Evert has been a long-time admirer of the Swiss star Roger Federer but her comments on the matter reveal her unbiased outlook. Interestingly, she is not the only one who thinks that Novak Djokovic has exceeded greatness in the sport.

Andy Roddick’s high praise for Novak

While being one of the most fierce rivals of Novak Djokovic during his early years as a player, Andy Roddick has spoken highly about the Serbian legend. In an interview, he said that the Serb is probably the best athlete at the moment while surpassing the likes of Roger Federer. While the Swiss great managed to bag 20 Grand Slams, Djoker has 24 slams to his name with the possibility of adding more in the future.

“The dominance of Novak and the way that he’s able to win this consistently is just absurd. He’s probably the most reliable player that we’ve ever had in the game. I wouldn’t bet against him on any given day, on any surface, in any format,” said Roddick.
