Nick Kyrgios hits back at French tennis star for sharing his thoughts on the Aussie’s comeback

Previously during a conversation at the ‘Nothing Major’ podcast, Nick Kyrgios revealed that he’s probably going to play the Grand Slams, Masters events, and a couple of ATP 500 tournaments. All he now wants is to make up for the time he has lost in the last few years. Hearing some words of optimism surrounding his comeback will surely do wonders for his confidence. However, according to Nicolas Mahut, Nick Kyrgios’ singles Grand Slam title aspirations are not “realistic” enough.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Nick Kyrgios finally silence his critics by clinching a Grand Slam in 2025?

Have an interesting take?

Earlier during an interview, Mahut said, “Kyrgios hasn’t been back that long and of course, you can dream of the title at the Australian Open, but you have to be realistic.” After hearing this, we saw Nick Kyrgios taking a jibe at the Frenchman. He said, “I have people like Mahut telling me to be realistic. He was an amazing doubles player, a Grand Slam champion, no doubt, but he didn’t have the singles career I’ve had. That’s probably why he has his opinion. But on the singles court, he never had the belief I have, so that opinion means nothing to me. I’ve achieved way more things playing singles than Mahut could have in his entire career.

For those who are unaware, Nick Kyrgios has won 7 titles in his singles career so far. His best record in the major events was reaching the final of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. So, it’ll be interesting to see if he really can finish his career by clinching a few Grand Slam titles in the next few years. How mentally is he prepared to take up this challenge, though? “That belief is what separates players. Federer, Nadal, Djokovic – they were the greatest because people were defeated before they even stepped on the court with them. I don’t want to be that player. I’ll always back my ability and my belief,” said Kyrgios in the interview. Do you think he can do wonders in 2025?
