Nick Kyrgios never misses a chance to put his name in the headlines. Even after staying out of action for quite a while, he still managed to stay in the limelight by ‘stirring the pot’! Especially, his refusal to hold back in his criticisms of Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek on their doping controversies has sparked quite a few reactions in the tennis world. After seeing, ITIA opting to clear Sinner and allow him to play, Kyrgios called it, “Ridiculous – whether it was accidental or planned.” He had even called out for a 2-year ban for the Italian. There have been multiple such comments, which have created a bit of controversy in the last few months. Is Nick Kyrgios doing the right thing, though?
Now, after all these happenings over the last few months, it seems as if Nick Kyrgios’ incredible comeback to the Tour has been overshadowed by his controversial comments. He has been constantly taking a jibe at Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek in the last few weeks. Just a few days ago, we saw him expressing his excitement about his comeback with a tweet but at the end of that tweet he wrote, “Back out there…blessed..without failing any drug tests.” After that, in another comment, he wrote, “I have an 8-figure career. Grand slam finalist and beaten all of the greatest of all time. Doesn’t seem bad to me. No drugs either.“
So, after seeing him slamming Sinner and Swiatek continuously, renowned journalist Jason Goodall was recently asked to share his thoughts on Nick Kyrgios’ comment. While answering this in the recent episode of the Tennis Channel Live Podcast, Goodall said, “Not guilty? If that’s the case then you move on, and if you don’t like the process, that’s fair enough. Then you got to perhaps question the process but the process had had its day and decided that he’s (Sinner) is not guilty.“

He further added, “So with Iga we know we all have taken melatonin in the past. You buy from the chemist and you trust that process, right? You can’t test those tablets on yourself! So, when you’re found guilty and you can find the source really quickly which both these athletes were able to do, then you move on.“ After that, Jason Goodall was spotted trying to figure out what really might have drawn Nick Kyrgios into all of these things. He said, “With Nick, I think he likes the controversies, doesn’t he? I think he likes to keep his name up there and relevant.“
Goodall further added that he feels that it’s a very bad take for the sport to see someone like Nick Kyrgios who has worked hard over the last few years trying to become one of the loved ones in Australia to do all these things. “It’s certainly not helping us. It’s just not right. If you’re guilty then it’s fair enough you can have a go…but the process is in place and they’ve gone through that process and you gotta move on now, I don’t like it at all!” he said.
After hearing Jason Goodall’s words on whether Nick Kyrgios is right or not, we’re reminded of Andy Roddick’s similar take on this. Roddick and Kyrgios have been in a ‘battle mode’ on social media over this topic in the last few months. However, in October, we saw Roddick share an interesting take on why Jannik Sinner’s case shouldn’t be considered a ‘preferential treatment.’

Just like Goodall, even Andy Roddick believes since Jannik Sinner managed to find the source within a short time span, he was given some time grace and didn’t have to stop playing. According to him, problems arise when in other cases athletes don’t know where it came from and they need more time and can’t even afford an army of lawyers quickly. After that, Roddick was seen taking several digs at Nick Kyrgios for his comments on the Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek’s doping saga. However, the American isn’t the only one to do that!
Former British number one thinks Nick Kyrgios has taken his criticisms too far in the doping saga
Just a few days ago, we saw Iga Swiatek‘s coach Wim Fissette taking an indirect jibe at Nick Kyrgios and others for their contact criticisms towards Swiatek. He said, “There will always be people who will be negative“ and suggested that such incidents could happen to any player and criticized those making negative comments without fully understanding the details. After that, we saw the French veteran tennis player, Nicolas Mahut criticizing Nick Kyrgios for going overboard in his comments on Jannik Sinner’s doping incident.

Even Mark Petchey was heard saying, “Nick Kyrgios needs to give it a rest.” Not only Petchey there were other tennis icons who portrayed their disagreement with the Aussie, take for example, we heard Alexandra Stevenson say, “Maybe he’s (Kyrgios) smoking pot or something (laughs). I’m sure he’s not that clean.” Then came another dig from the former ATP pro, Nikolay Davydenko. He said, “Nick Kyrgios is always shouting, a showman. He says all kinds of nonsense on and off the court and will continue to do so.“
Amid all these, there is a new addition to this list! Laura Robson recently shared her views on Nick Kyrgios’ continuous jibe at Jannik Sinner. She said, “I don’t think you ever want a situation where all respect goes out the window. If we can avoid that, that would be great.” She further added, “I mean, it’s not a shock that Nick is opinionated, and he’s entitled to his feelings.” What are your thoughts though, on Nick Kyrgios’ continuous jibe at Jannik SInner and Iga Swiatek?
