Is Nick Kyrgios right to call out Jannik Sinner, or is he just stirring the pot?

“Honestly, this is probably the best I’ve felt in two years,” said Nick Kyrgios as he announced his return to competitive tennis. After being out of action for over a year due to a wrist injury, the Aussie sensation finally came back. Starting his campaign in 2025, he would be looking to get back to winning ways in Brisbane. While his comeback is highly anticipated, one thing that’s even more talked about is his battle with Jannik Sinner. Speaking on the same, Alexandra Stevenson, a retired tennis star, made her thoughts clear.

In November 19th episode of the Serving Aces: Conversations with Alexandra Stevenson podcast, she hinted at a rivalry brewing between Kyrgios and Jannik Sinner. “Yeah. I mean, hey, look, Kyrgios is already coming for him again. Apparently, apparently, according to Nick Kyrgios, he will be playing in Brisbane. So he’s going to start at 2025, playing. He’s already saying he should be gone for two years. So, Jannik Sinner, watch your back,” Stevenson said.

Earlier this year, Sinner tested positive twice for an anabolic steroid in March. However, an independent tribunal cleared him of blame on August 20. The tribunal accepted Sinner’s explanation- his physio had used a steroid spray for a cut on their finger-about how the banned substance entered his system. Almost a month later, WADA appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, seeking a two-year ban for Sinner. Kyrgios has criticized the decision to clear Sinner.

After the news broke, Kyrgios wrote on X: “Ridiculous – whether it was accidental or planned. You get tested twice with a banned (steroid) substance… you should be gone for 2 years. Your performance was enhanced. Massage cream… Yeah nice.” Talking about their professional outings, Sinner and Kyrgios have faced each other once in Miami in 2022. Sinner won the match 7-6, 6-3.

Consequently, Jannik Sinner opened up on whether he would like to offer any response to him.

Have an interesting take?

Jannik Sinner has chosen to stay calm in the face of Nick Kyrgios’ repeated comments. After winning the US Open and facing scrutiny over his doping controversy, Sinner addressed the situation. He suggested he is willing to move forward if he meets Kyrgios. “I don’t want to respond on what he said. Everyone is free to say everything, so it’s OK,” Sinner said.

He added, “If that is the case, let’s see. It’s going to be different, for sure, but I don’t know. I don’t know what to say. Maybe if I say something now, and then the reaction is going to be something else because you live in this moment. I’m someone who forgets quite fast something. As I said, everyone is quite free to say everything, so it is what it is.” He also suggested that he is very relaxed and does not prefer replying. Meanwhile, Kyrgios did not hold back and continued to aim at Sinner.

Reacting to WADA’s appeal, Kyrgios posted on Instagram: “Hahaha maybe not so innocent after all eh?” He followed it up in the comments section, writing: “Hahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahah god I hope the people running this thing don’t care that he is number 1 and has money.”

The tension between the two players continues to escalate, especially as Kyrgios’ comeback approaches. But, when the two face each other on the court, things might be different for the two. What are your thoughts on the same? Do let us know in the comments below!
