The retirement news of Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer has made plenty of headlines all over the world. Additionally, tennis players reacting to Federer’s retirement also garnered many reactions. Recently, another tennis legend, Venus Williams, took to social media to pay homage to the Swiss Maestro.

Alongside Venus, 18-year-old American tennis sensation, Coco Gauff also reacted on social media. Notably, Federer shared two social media posts to announce his decision to hang his rackets and draw curtains on his tennis career.

Venus Williams and Coco Gauff pay homage to the great Roger Federer

The 7-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams took to Instagram and shared some lovely pictures of them holding their respective Wimbledon trophies. In the caption, she wrote, The greatest ever. Miss you already @rogerfederer.

She also shared some stories on her Instagram, along with some pictures of them together. In one of the stories, she said, We both had epic flow @rogerfederer.

In another story, she wrote, And some good times at Wimbledon. Miss this one hand bh already.

Later, she shared her sister Serena Williams‘ post on her story and joked, “Kinda upset that @serenawilliams got to hang out and have more photos with @rogerfederer than I did.”

Apart from Venus, the American teen sensation, Coco Gauff also took to her Instagram story and shared an old photo of her and Federer in one frame. In her stories, she wrote, “#RForever.”

Also, she shared an Instagram post and in the caption, she wrote, thank you @rogerfederer for elevating the game in so many ways on and off the court. thank you for all the advice you’ve given me over the years. thank you for being the best role model for so many. thank you for everything… #RForever.

A knee injury forced Federer into retirement

It is worth noting that Federer has been struggling with his knee for sometime. Last year, after losing in the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon Championships, he underwent knee surgery, which forced him out of the whole 2021 season. After a few workout posts, Federer gave hope to his fans about returning to the tour full time.

Unfortunately for the Swiss player, the knee is still bothering him a great deal. Hence, he had to take this drastic decision regarding his tennis career. Notably, his last professional match was against Hubert Hurkacz in the quarter-final of Wimbledon last year, which was sadly his last Grand Slam match as well.

Meanwhile, we still have one last chance to see him play, as the Laver Cup later this month will be his last tournament on the tour. In his statement, he also revealed that he will play tennis matches in the future, but not in Grand Slams or in other tournaments. So, there’s a good chance we might see him in the future, possibly playing in various exhibition matches.
