“Every relationship has good times and bad times. I could just feel things were not right,” Ajla Tomljanovic said about her breakup with Matteo Berrettini in the first episode of Netflix’s Break Point season two. By then, the couple, who appeared in the show’s first season, had already broken up, leaving fans wondering why. Two years have passed since then, but it seems those memories are still fresh in Berrettini’s mind as he shared his stern reaction to his experience of the show!
Ahead of his Cincinnati Masters opener match against Holger Rune, Matteo Berrettini spoke live from the city with Andy Roddick on the “Served” episode on August 13th. Appearing on the show for the first time, the Italian heartthrob shared his thoughts about his upcoming events. During one segment, Roddick asked the Italian player about his overall experience of doing ‘Break Point,‘ inquiring, “Would you choose to do it again or regret doing it?”
The 28-year-old, hesitant at first, let out an “ufff,“ to which the audience, as well as Roddick, started laughing. But after a little convincing to open up, Berrettini stated, “Personally, it was a good experience. Before doing it I was like if I do it I will do it all the way. I am not going to cut anything unless I’m too pissed and don’t wanna talk to anybody, even my coach. I don’t like cameras around me but I was like, you guys could see it. My room was a mess.”

The show proved to be intense for the Italian player, especially due to a controversial moment between him and his former girlfriend. It seemed that the former World No. 6 was recalling the moments when cameras captured an awkward exchange between the couple in the second episode, “Take the crown,” of the docuseries Break Point in 2022.
During one scene, Tomlijanovic wanted to have a conversation about her upcoming interview venue, Berrettini, who was up against Rafael Nadal in the next match at the Australian Open. “I have to sleep. You go downstairs and ask for a room,” he said, referring to his 8.15 am call time for the next day. “I’m going to say on air that you kicked me out,” Tomlijanovic said humorously.
However, Berrettini waved it away by adding how he was “still“ in the Australian Open. Although it seemed to be a hilarious exchange between the duo, it later stirred up some controversies regarding their relationship online, with some criticizing Berrettini for his behavior. Ultimately, the couple broke up in February 2022. The Italian who couldn’t win against his opponent the next day later clarified, “We broke up because in the end, in life, we have to be happy, and if that is not happening, I think it’s not worth it.”

Recalling those moments, The Italian further told Roddick, “I was a little bit upset..They followed me a lot that year. And they only showed that part of the year and I was like you could have been better and shown more. But I also know that they had a few players, so it wasn’t easy. Doing it again probably not, looking at the result.” Not only Berrettini but Tomljanovic also shared her reaction on the same subject in an earlier interview.
Matteo Berrettini’s former girlfriend’s take on their not-so-“dramatic” moments in the docuseries
Berrettini confirmed his split up with Tomljanovic last year during a press conference at the Queen’s Club Championship. He further stated that he was not “looking for love,” but if it came to him, he would welcome it with open arms. While he insisted on moving on, Tomljanovic clarified how their conversations during the docuseries were blown out of proportion.

“The internet never disappoints. I knew there was a video but I was never going to put it to light. I honestly didn’t think anyone would pick up on that scene, so it was hilarious when they found it. To be fair, the lighting outside was much better than the room, anyway, so I don’t want anyone to feel bad. Even if they had filmed it, I promise it wasn’t that dramatic.”
On the other hand, Berrettini said he is not against showing the “cool,“ parts of the behind-the-scene moments of tennis players. But it seems it did not work well for him for the last couple of years. However, as the exes focus on their games and move forward, the tennis world will certainly remember their love story for years!
