It was the year 2022. American tennis star Reilly Opelka was having an on-and-off season that year. Earlier that season, he won two ATP titles alongside a finals appearance in Delray Beach. However, later that year, he suffered a hip injury that resulted in a lengthy layoff. He last played at the 2022 Citi Open in Washington, where he reached the third round before losing to Nick Kyrgios. Additionally, a wrist injury suffered earlier this year further delayed his comeback plans. Now, after more than a year of being out of action, Opelka is finally set to make a much-awaited comeback.

Reilly Opelka set for a grand comeback

The Ultimate Tennis Showdown, founded in 2020, is an international tennis competition. Played in singles format, it is organized by Serena Williams’ ex-coach Patrick Mouratoglou and businessman Alex Popyrin, who is the father of tennis player, Alexi Popyrin. The previous winners of the tournament include the likes of Matteo Berrettini and Alexander Zverev.
Recently, it was known that Opelka will play in the upcoming UTS event in Seoul. Being the first UTS event in Asia, it boasts an interesting line-up. Opelka will be joined by the likes of Richard Gasquet, Jan-Lennard Struff, and Milos Raonic. The other four, namely Nick Kyrgios, Gael Monfils, Alexander Bublik, and Soonwoo Kwon, complete the field of eight for UTS Korea.

UTS Korea will be the third UTS event of the year. It will be held at Goyang Gymnasium in Goyangsi, Korea, from Nov 30 to Dec 3. Six places will be up for grabs for the players to qualify for the UTS Grand Final in London.
Meanwhile, Opelka has remained positive despite his lengthy injury layoff. Recently, he cherished a fun approach to learning tennis.

Opelka opens up about his childhood days
The American revealed how his father was involved in him getting quality tennis training. For this, Opelka’s father had an interesting approach. Talking about this, Opelka said, “My dad and I would drive down on the weekends, and we go to a fun restaurant, stop, we’d see other things. It wasn’t just tennis.”
Further, he went on to add, “I was never worried about someone being maybe about not being good enough or not. I mean, I think we never had the mindset of like, going and like winning these tournaments. It was just to kind of have fun and get better.”
