The American tennis legend Chris Evert has been involved with stars from the men’s circuit and other prominent personalities such as Jimmy Connors, John Lloyd, Andy Mill and Greg Norman. Out of all of them, former British tennis player John Lloyd was her first husband. In a recent interview, he talked about not having kids with Evert and shared about one ironic reality with his ex-wife.

The former British star also released his autobiography, called ‘Dear John’, where he talked in detail about his relationship with the 18-time Grand Slam champion.

John Lloyd opens up about living close to Chris Evert

During a recent interview with Tennis365, the former British no.1 said, We gave it a decent shot, but it didn’t work out. It was fine. We didn’t have any children and maybe that was for the best.

Notably, Evert and Lloyd’s marriage lasted around eight years after their marriage in 1979. Since then, Evert married twice and Lloyd once. Incidentally, both of them have children with their other partners.

Speaking about it, he said, She has since had three children and I’ve had two. We’ve had a different life since. Ironically we now live 20 minutes away from each other. We see each other occasionally and it’s fine.

Notably, Lloyd showed massive support for Evert, as she had a really tough battle after her ovarian cancer diagnosis. Moreover, he hailed the American champion’s fighting mentality on and off the court.

Evert and Lloyd’s love story

Both Evert and Lloyd met each other during the Wimbledon Championships in 1978. During the Championships, they went on a date, Lloyd revealed later in an interview. After falling in love, they married each other one year later. Although they were both professional tennis players, their careers were completely the opposite.

While many consider Evert one of the greatest female tennis players of all time, Lloyd was struggling to find his feet for most of his career. In terms of Grand Slam titles, Evert won 18 singles titles. On the other hand, Lloyd only reached only one major final in the singles competition at the Australian Open.

Although they chose to go their separate ways in their personal lives, the former star players showed tremendous respect for each other.
