Just like everyone, Iga Swiatek too had a favorite player growing up – the one she rooted for and looked up to for inspiration. And she has never shied away from expressing her admiration for the one athlete she idolized as a child – Rafael Nadal. Ever since she burst onto the scene, she made her admiration for the great Spaniard known. Coincidentally, she won her first major at Roland Garros in 2020 as a young 19-year-old, which is uncannily similar to Nadal’s feat in 2005.
It is clear, the 22-time grand slam champion’s influence on Swiatek has been profound. No wonder she has already established herself as a dominant force on clay – her idol’s favorite surface.
