Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur are among the many tennis power couples, but it’s their chemistry that sets them apart from others. The pair, having aired their engagement news to fans days ago, has returned to the tour for the 2025 season. However, both players have been drawn up against each other for their season-opening act at the United Cup. But that didn’t stop Boulter from gushing about Minaur’s impressive shot-making skills in Sydney.
Minaur’s Team Australia got drawn up against Great Britain for a quarterfinal contest. The annual group event began at the end of last week and features 18 nations actively hunting for a season-commencing triumph. The Aussie played his first match of the tournament on Saturday as he overpowered Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry in straight sets. That was merely a trailer for his stellar showcase in Sydney. He carried a similar energy against the Briton Billy Harris.
The 25-year-old dispatched Harris in straight sets as he produced an epic showdown. However, while he was putting on an absolute exhibition of his skills, his fiance was on the other side of the fence during the clash. The British WTA star wasn’t supposed to cheer for her fiance as he was in the opponent team, but Minaur, poised to thrill fans, still grabbed hold of her attention after delivering a jaw-dropping point win against Harris.

During the match, Minaur executed a challenging volley return against Harris to which the Briton couldn’t help but blush. In a video uploaded on X, the World No. 9’s exquisite skill was featured in a slow-mo point grab. The video later showed Boulter smiling as Minaur clinched the point in his favor.

Alex de Minaur says he is “sick and tired” of something at the United Cup
Australian superstar Alex de Minaur served up six aces and won 89 percent of points on his first serve against Harris. With an impeccable service rate, the World No. 9 is only bringing the best he has to offer to his team at the United Cup. After winning, he sat for a post-match presser and told the reporters in Sydney how he tried to build up his serve during the offseason.

He said, “I got sick and tired of everyone saying I didn’t have a big enough first serve. So I did my best, I tried to get a little bit more muscle into me and I’m glad it paid off today.” Known for his defensive capabilities, Minaur’s improved service will play in his favor on the ATP Tour as he turns up against his opponents.
Despite Minaur living up to the expectations though, Australia was eliminated from the United Cup and Great Britain advanced to the last four. Minaur’s fiance Katie Boulter’s one-sided victory over Olivia Gadecki helped Great Britain prevail in Sydney. Do you think Team GB can go all the way and lift the United Cup trophy?
