Stefanos Tsitsipas is one of the most talented players on the men’s tour currently. However, his inconsistency has marred him to achieve success in big tournaments. Last season, he reached the finals of the French Open, before losing out to Novak Djokovic in the summit clash. Additionally, he made a semifinal appearance at the Australian Open, before bowing out early at Wimbledon and the US Open.

This season, Tsitsipas finished runner-up in Rotterdam apart from a semifinal finish at the Australian Open and in Acapulco. Recently, he revisited his last year’s French Open final, feeling disappointed after winning the first two sets. There is certainly an ongoing debate surrounding the switch to the best of three sets at the Majors for the men’s game as well. The Greek certainly believes that way and he called for a change in the format of the Grand Slam tournaments, to which Karolina Pliskova reacted.

The Czech Republic tennis star took to Instagram, where she posted a story of an article about Tsitsipas wanting a change in the format at the major tournaments. The story was accompanied by a laughing smiley, along with ‘Big Brainer’ and ‘Smart’ stickers.
Speaking about a change in the format of the Grand Slam tournaments, Tsitsipas said, “I don’t want to be controversial or anything. There is also the topic of equal pay and everything, women getting equal pay for playing best-of-three, then getting equal pay for playing best-of-five. I don’t know. There are also a lot of scientists and statisticians, whatever, out there. I’ve been told that women have better endurance than men. I don’t know.”

Further, he added, “Maybe they can also play best-of-five, I guess. For Grand Slams, best-of-five, I like it. On the other side, on the other hand, we would have seen much more variety when it comes to different Grand Slam winners if it was best-of-three, I believe. I very much believe that the winners of Grand Slams would be very different if the format was best-of-three in men.”
Last week, Stefanos Tsitsipas suffered a shock defeat in the third round at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. American tennis sensation, Jenson Brooksby, defeated the Greek in three sets 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. It was a disappointing end to Tsitsipas’ campaign in Indian Wells, given that he was expected to dig deep at the tournament.
