Tennis legend John McEnroe recently shared his thoughts on missing ESPN colleague Chris Evert in a heartfelt message. The 18-time grand slam champion is currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Highlighting the importance of fitness in sports, the tennis icon shared how her absence at the commentators’ box has been perceptible.

McEnroe stated in the 2024 Australian Open Media Conference Call, “Obviously in our sport or any sport pretty much, you need to be fit. That goes without saying.” Expressing his long-built admiration for Evert, he added, “My favorite player growing up on the women’s tour, I loved Chrissie obviously, we miss her.”

The message from McEnroe gave out a genuine concern for Evert’s well-being as she fights for her good health against a big issue. However, it isn’t just McEnroe who has been concerned about Evert’s well-being as many other renowned names from the tennis world came forward to express their feelings for the legend.

Days after Chris Evert updated fans with the recurrence of her ovarian cancer, WTA legend Martina Navratilova showed a humble response towards the co-player. Navratilova, who also experienced a similar journey of fighting the same disease, not only approached her for support but also cooked delicious food for her.

As Evert found herself overwhelmed with the gesture, she took to social media to express her thankful feelings. “We’re in this together! 💪🏼👊🙏 Thanks for the delicious food ⁦ @Martina ⁩ ❤️,” the 18-time grand slam champion wrote. As the legend continues her tough fight against the illness, the support from co-stars surely explains that her presence is being missed.
