While Miami Open Tournament’s director James Blake criticized Alshon’s “low-level” comparison, Jessica Pegula and Andy Roddick joined the bandwagon this morning.
In recent years, the pickleball has gained a huge popularity. Tennis legends like John McEnroe, Maria Sharapova, and Andre Agassi have promoted the sport. Tennis pro turned pickleball star, Christian Alshon, sparked a social media debate after tweeting about the difficulties of pickleball on his former Twitter platform. The comments struck a nerve with some tennis fans and figures, dividing online opinions between the two sports.
Pickleball has made me a much better athlete than Tennis ever did. Faster reaction time and speed are needed since the ball is only coming from 10 feet away. Point for point, pickleball requires more skill than tennis.

Alshon’s statement was first criticized by the Miami Open tournament’s director James Blake. Shortly after, many famous tennis personalities from the sport dropped their opinions. One such person is former tennis legend Andy Roddick. The 2007 Davis Cup Champion bashed Alshon with his remark: “Also….. one requires running and matches that last an hour or more.”
Andy, a former tennis player, has emphatically highlighted the stark difference in physical demands between tennis and pickleball. While acknowledging the need for quick reflexes and focus in pickleball, Andy emphasizes that tennis is a whole other beast when it comes to endurance.

Not just Roddick but American WTA star Jessica Pegula also expressed his disagreement with Christian Alshon. While she didn’t write anything as such, she responded with three danger emojis.
Although such emoji symbolizes extreme emotions, such as dying of laughter, exhaustion, or expressing awkwardness or embarrassment in a hyperbolic and playful manner, Pegula’s would have certainly directed fans towards her quick disagreement of the Alshon’s comments.

Christopher Eubanks surprise the fraternity with his unexpected reaction to the matter
While the majority of the tennis fraternity seemed angry about it, Christopher Eubanks rather seemed entertained. He dropped a GIF replying to James Blake’s comment on Alshon’s post, where a surprised black guy is eating popcorn as if he is enjoying it.

Given that he is a rising tennis player, it feels like he has room for both sports. Eubanks not only drops a GIF but expresses how tennis teaches people to go beyond such conflicts. It helps players to expand their minds from such narrow criticisms and shallow comparisons.
