Is Anna Kalinskaya's emotional breakdown a sign of pressure from Jannik Sinner's success?

Just a bad day at the office! Anna Kalinskaya broke down in tears after her disappointing loss to the Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova in the Ningbo Open QF. Kalinskaya started off pretty well winning the first, but she failed to hold on to that momentum in following sets. Ultimately, Muchova outclassed her sealing her victory by 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. With the form she is in this season, this defeat was perhaps like a bolt from the blue! Her fans came out in numbers to shower love and support for her valiant efforts throughout the match.

In a viral video clip from her match, Anna Kalinskaya was sobbing into her tower while sitting on her chair. The 25-year-old Russian star was continuously wiping her face with the towel as the tears kept rolling down her cheeks. Kalinskaya has played some outstanding tennis this season, but unfortunately for the Russian, she has failed to deliver when it mattered the most. She started the season ranking 80th in the world, but now she has climbed up to the 12th spot in the women’s singles ranking. However, Kalinskaya is yet to win a title this season!

Probably it was her desperation for a title that played out in form of frustration and outburst of emotions. Disappointment was clear on her face, and why not? Anna Kalinskaya failed to hit even a single ace in the entire match. Instead, she committed 13 double faults! After seeing her crying at the end of this match, fans came in to show support for the tennis star. Kalinskaya even received a bouquet of roses from her fans. She later uploaded that picture on her IG stories with the caption, “My fans are the best.”

However, this isn’t the first time this season, that we’re seeing Anna Kalinskaya breaking down in tears after a match. During her R16 match against Elena Rybakina at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships we caught a similar picture. Kalinskaya was seen taking a medical time-out during the first set of the match. She was having an issue with her arms which later on resulted in her decision to withdraw from the match with the scoreline well poised in favor of Rybakina at 6-3,3-0. Her boyfriend, Jannik Sinner looked a bit concerned at the player’s box as Kalinskaya left the Center Court in tears.

Despite having lost her fourth-round match at the same tournament, Kalinskaya stayed back in Beijing to show her support for Sinner. When Sinner was asked about these heartwarming gestures he shared with her girlfriend on the courts, he said, “It was a nice moment. We just support each other as much as we can.” Perhaps Kalinskaya now needs a similar hug from her boyfriend now.

Does Jannik Sinner ever exchange any tennis tactics with his girlfriend? In response to this nice question, Sinner said, “As tennis players we are, you know, different. I am different also to other tennis players. But for sure I always try to support her because she also tries to support me, giving some positive energy,” Even during the 2024 Terra Wortmann Open, Jannik Sinner was seen expressing his sadness over his girlfriend’s loss during the victory speech of the same tournament. Their support for each other clearly shows how strongly they have knitted their bonding over the last few months. And this may help Kalinskaya get back up soon. We hope we find Kalinskaya in full swing in the upcoming tournaments. All the best Anna!
