20-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic is undoubtedly one of the greatest tennis players of all time. However, he doesn’t always get the same respect as Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Also, whenever the Serb plays a match against either Nadal or Federer, the crowd always supports the latter. Indian tennis legend, Sania Mirza, also feels that Djokovic doesn’t get the respect he deserves.
In this Australian Summer, Novak had a great chance to surpass both Nadal and Federer at the Australian Open. Unfortunately, he had to leave the country because of his vaccination status. As a result, Nadal is now the 21-time Grand Slam champion, surpassing both Djokovic and Federer. In a recent interview, Sania Mirza talked very highly of Novak Djokovic and his legacy.

In a recent interview with Sony Six, 6-time Grand Slam doubles champion, Sania Mirza spoke very highly of Novak Djokovic. According to her, Novak is on par with both Federer and Nadal. She also talked about Novak’s consistent performance on the tennis court.
“People talk about Federer and Nadal all the time, and some of them forget about Novak Djokovic. Then Novak reminds them that he won so many major titles, being much younger than Federer, and even than Nadal,” Mirza said.

Right now, Novak has 9 Australian Open titles, and Mirza feels Novak could win 15 titles by the time he retires. “Novak has won nine titles at the Australian Open, and could even win another 15 by the time of his retirement, depending on how much he can play. Novak is expected to win several major titles, is incredibly well-prepared and will be at the top for a few more years,” Mirza further stated.

In 2022, Djokovic still hasn’t played a single match, as he prepares for the Dubai Tennis Championships. The tournament will start on 21st February. Apart from the Serb, other top players like Andrey Rublev, Jannik Sinner, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov, Hubert Hurkacz, and others will also take part.
Meanwhile, a dark cloud is hanging over Djokovic’s head regarding his participation at the French Open and the Wimbledon. In a recent interview with BBC, Djokovic stated that his stance on vaccination will remain the same. That means we will probably not see Djokovic playing any Grand Slam this year unless the vaccine mandate rule changes.
