The former American tennis player and 8-time Grand Slam winner, Andre Agassi, married fellow tennis player Steffi Graf in 2001, who herself is a legend of the sport, having won 22 major titles. However, only a few know about Agassi’s hardships and struggles as an athlete, which were revealed by the legendary American in his autobiography. Despite gaining notoriety for revealing Agassi’s darkest secrets, his book, Open, also recalled endearing moments. Like the one in which he talks about his champion wife, Steffi Graf.

The 8-time singles Grand Slam champion has been married to Steffi Graf for over two decades. While talking about Graf in his book, Agassi mentioned that Graf was way out of his league during his tennis career.
Andre Agassi once talked about his wife, Steffi Graf, after his Wimbledon triumph
The former American tennis player once faced major backlash from fans and the media because of his poor performances during the initial phase of his career. However, Andre Agassi answered all his critics by winning his first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 1992. Later, Agassi revealed that at the moment, he didn’t feel that Wimbledon’s victory was his most cherished moment that year.

The 8-time singles Grand Slam champion said, “I do feel happier in the summer of 1992, and more substantive, but the cause isn’t Wimbledon. It’s Wendi. We’ve grown closer. We’ve whispered promises to each other.”

While talking about his former girlfriend, Wendi Stewart, the former American star also mentioned his now-wife, Steffi Graf’s name. He added that Graf was only a “nice fantasy” for him. Agassi said, “I’ve accepted that I’m not meant to be with Steffi. It was a nice fantasy while it lasted, but I’ve devoted myself to Wendi, and vice versa.”
Agassi revealed that his Wimbledon victory made him famous
The American tennis star also stated that a lot of fans appeared from nowhere, asking him for his pictures and autograph after his triumph at Wimbledon. Agassi went on to say that he got huge recognition after his first Grand Slam victory. Agassi further revealed that he also got a lot of sponsorship deals, while also meeting many marketing experts, managers, and agents after his first Grand Slam victory. Furthermore, Agassi said that a lot of people wanted to get closer to him.

The former Wimbledon champion later went to on to win seven more Grand Slam titles. He, along with his archrival Pete Sampras, dominated the ATP Tour during the ’90s.
