Frances Tiafoe generated the biggest upset of the Wimbledon Championships 2021 after he beat Stefanos Tsitsipas. The American beat Stefanos 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in a rather comfortable victory. After his victory, Frances even praised fellow compatriot Sloane Stephens during the post-match press conference. The camaraderie between Francis and Sloane was clearly visible. He spoke highly of the World No. 73 in WTA rankings.

Sloane Stephens won her first-round game without dropping a set against Petra Kvitova. She beat the Czech player 6-3, 6-4.

Frances will now be facing Vasek Pospisil of Canada, whereas Sloane will be facing her American friend, Kristie Ahn.

Frances Tiafoe and his thoughts on Sloane Stephens

Frances Tiafoe and Sloane Stephens are very good friends, as was evident from Tiafoe’s post-match press conference. Both Americans sprung big upsets on Day 1 of the Wimbledon Championships, and both are determined to go as far as possible in the tournament.

Yeah, it’s so funny. Me and Sloane were actually messaging literally about that because I was so hyped for her. You know I am a guy, I don’t know if you guys follow my socials, but I am a guy who always, if someone’s doing well, then I always show it love. And seeing her do so well in Paris was, I loved it. She hasn’t done something like that in a while… She is one of the best girls on tour, arguably. I mean she is fully there, I mean it’s not even, there is no gimmick. It is just facts,” Frances said.

Sloane beat World No. 10, Petra Kvitova, and is surely one of the players to look out for this year. She dominated the game and was lethal with her shots. “Obviously playing against Petra, you have to bring your A game. I thought I played really well today. I’m just trying to keep the momentum going, trying to find that, like, good, consistent level again,” Sloane said during her post-match interview.
