Coco Gauff made quite a few interesting revelations in her press conference after the 4th round victory over Anna Karolina Schmiedlova at the French Open. The world number 6 spoke about enjoying the new chants from the French crowd. Her latest favorite chant is likely to send many tennis fans into a wave of nostalgia. It is none other than the famous “Allez” of Roger Federer which was heard after every big point of the Swiss Maestro.

Despite getting her own crowd chant, Gauff found herself in a bit of trouble in the opening set when she failed to serve it out. However, the crowd provided her with enough energy to come through in straight sets as she progresses into his third consecutive quarter-final at the Roland Garros.

The American rising star is one of the few players who has expressed her love for the French crowds. She was getting a kick out of those “Allez” chants, which were specially reserved for the Swiss Maestro Roger Federer. Gauff said, “Yeah, I love the ‘allez,’ I think it’s a cool way to say, Come on. I don’t really say it in the match sometimes. Sometimes in practice matches if I win a point, like that’s funny, I’ll say it.

She further added, “But my fitness coach, he’s French, and he’s been asking me to say “allez” like for the longest. It just doesn’t come naturally. Maybe one of these days I’ll remember to actually use that part of my French learning language.”

As she faces the defending champion and world number 1 Iga Swiatek in the quarter-finals, Gauff will be hoping for the same level of support from the crowd. The American will be looking to register her first win over the Pole after suffering five consecutive defeats.
