Serena Williams‘s former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, revealed his reasons for making the Ultimate Tennis Showdown a male tennis event in London. Mouratoglou, who is the founder and chairman of the UTS, previously spoke about not trying to change the sport since he is one of the biggest self-proclaimed tennis fans. However, Mouratoglou’s recent comment on the UTS London event being a male tennis league truly surprised the fans.

Previously, Mouratoglou received many spotlights for his comment about the pay differences between men and women tennis players. While his reason was quite practical, it didn’t go well with female tennis fans. Now, Mouratoglou is again spotted on the headlines for the recent UTS event in London.

In a recent interview, Serena Williams’s former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou candidly opened up about the reason being UTS London a male tennis event. “Men’s tennis is bigger than women’s tennis. Because the investment is huge and we not in a position to date to run both men and women’s tour. But we are progressing. You know the events are doing really well and we are sold out. I feel more and more interest from everyone from the players also, from the fans and fanbase is growing fast. So I hope in the near future we will be able to do two tours, one for men and one for women.”

Mouratoglou emphasized women and added– “But we didn’t forget women. We had to make a choice and to make it successful as a business was a key to be able to continue the adventure we went to them to be more evident thing which was to start with men.”

Previously Mouratoglou expressed that financially ATP is stronger than WTA as the former makes ten times more revenue than the latter. Now fans are guessing that probably this is the sole reason for Mouratoglou to make UTS a male-only tennis event.

What does Patrick Mouratoglou feel as the major problems of today’s tennis?

Serena Williams’s former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou opened up about many crucial things that he found concerning about today’s tennis. He spoke about the importance of creating a growing fanbase for tennis, which is completely missing in the scene. Mouratoglou expressed that the tennis fanbase has not changed a bit since the 80s and for the modern tennis generation it is a problem.

Mouratoglou commented-“Tennis fans are old and getting older and the problem is not the age, but it is the same fan base since the 1970s and 80s, It is the same fan base since the 1970s and 1980s. It’s me! I was ten at the time and now I am 53 and this is the fanbase of tennis.”

Mouratoglou’s straightforward revelations also represent the growing disparity in men’s and women’s tennis. He also confirmed the backdated administration of both ATP and WTA. He made some fans upset with UTS being a male tennis event. However, his comments express that they will soon welcome female tennis stars to play in the league.
