The mixed doubles format often throws up surprises at the Grand Slams. This year, we’ll see some interesting pairings playing together at the French Open. Among them is the power couple, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Paula Badosa. With the demons of the past behind them, the duo is heading in the right direction as far as their relationship is concerned. Ahead of their opening round match in mixed doubles, Badosa opened up about pairing with her boyfriend at the French Open.

Over the past year, Badosa has looked up to Tsitsipas to find inspiration in her career and get it back on track. She has struggled with injuries and form which has resulted in inconsistent performances from her. However, recently, she has shown signs of getting back to her best and credited Tsitsipas for it.

Badosa revealed, “Talking to someone you love and who is an inspiration for how good he is, helps me. His advice help me and I feel very lucky to have him by my side. Playing mixed doubles will make it more special.”

While Tsitsipas will be playing in all three formats at the French Open, Badosa will be seen in action in singles and mixed doubles. Like Badosa, Tsitsipas also felt that teaming up with his girlfriend in mixed doubles was an obvious choice as this venue held a special place in their relationship.

Stefanos Tsitsipas reveals ‘no-brainer’ decision to team up with Paula Badosa

Talking about their relationship, Badosa and Tsitsipas got along together ahead of the French Open last year. It was in Paris that the power couple had their first date night. The Greek tennis star highlighted this reason when asked about playing mixed doubles with his girlfriend.

He said, “Paris holds a special place for me and Paula, that’s where we had our first date right before Roland-Garros last year, our anniversary occurs here, so for us it was a no-brainer to play our first mixed doubles in Roland-Garros.”

The duo is no stranger to playing together in mixed doubles. Last year, they paired up in the World Tennis League match where they defeated Daniil Medvedev and Sofia Kenin. Badosa and Tsitsipas will begin their mixed doubles campaign tomorrow in which they’ll face Ena Shibahara of Japan and Nathaniel Lammons of America. It’ll be interesting to see if Tsitsipas and Badosa can get along together well on the court, like in their personal lives.
