Alexander Zverev has made his country proud with his French Open run. In the finals, while he faced Carlos Alcaraz, Boris Becker grabbed a negative light with a comment that came from him during their match. But now, after his comment got a lot of attention, the 56-year-old tennis legend himself came forward to clarify his statement.

In a recent casual remark, Boris Becker said, “We never had a champion here,” meaning that the French Open will be a historic day for Germany. Tennis fans were incensed by this comment because it disregarded Steffi Graf’s outstanding accomplishments.

On the other hand, the WTA legend has an incredible record that includes six French Open crowns and 22 Grand Slam singles victories. While Alexander Zverev has demonstrated potential and promise, his accomplishments still pale in comparison to Graf’s legacy in the sport. Graf’s achievements and supremacy were immediately praised by the public, who also noted her important contribution to German tennis history.

After the statement was made in the wrong way, Becker recently took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “I was talking about Men’s champion my friend …Hi.” He made it clear that in the ATP world, Zverev is the one to achieve incredible feet, making his point loud with no mistakes.

Becker told Eurosport, “It’s a historic day for Germany because we’ve never had a champion here. We’ve never had anybody win Roland-Garros, and he’s in the final. He’s got a shot. He’s been to the final before, and it was a lesson learned. He should have beaten [Dominic] Thiem four years ago in the US Open final. He’s a more mature guy now; a more mature player.”

However, on the other hand, Roddick revealed that Paris preferred Carlos Alcaraz to win over Alexander Zverev, putting up a strong comment regarding the same match.

Roddick shows support for Carlos Alcaraz

Andy Roddick recently reaffirmed the Paris atmosphere and noted how Carlos Alcaraz has amassed an incredible fan base at Roland Garros. In the quarterfinal match, Roddick complimented Alcaraz’s serve against Sinner and said, “He could make the courts so much wider, right? Three additional stairs were required to be covered on both sides. Alcaraz proved his mettle against Sinner today, and I believe he can do the same against Zverev.”

The American legend thinks Alcaraz, will win numerous French Open championships in the future. It makes sense that Boris Becker has come out in forceful favor of German competitor Alexander Zverev, considering Alcaraz’s talent and promise.

The question still stands as Zverev takes on Alcaraz: can he be able to overcome the passionate audience and win his maiden Grand Slam title? Share your opinions with us in the comments section!
