Novak Djokovic‘s recent win at the Roland Garros has triggered a new controversy. The Serb’s R3 match against Lorenzo Musetti, which lasted for 4 hours and 29 minutes was brought to light by the US Open’s official X handle. While Iga Swiatek took just 40 minutes to stun her R4 rival Anastasia Potapova, the admin committed the drastic mistake of drawing the numbers parallel.

Amid the cheers of Djokovic’s win, the US Open’s official X account shared a post in which pictures of the Serb and Iga Swiatek can be seen parallel to each other. While the first look might have given the idea of a regular statistical presentation, the comparison between their match timings triggered the WTA fans’ frustration.

A fan, being quick to remind everyone of the time when several ATP stars called it quits during the Madrid Open, wrote, “But where were these comparisons in Madrid when every other men’s match was a walkover?” With this, he pointed at the likes of Daniil Medvedev, Jiri Lehecka, and more as they retired early from matches, mostly due to injuries.

Another fan, despising the dark intentions of the admin behind this post, wrote, “lmao f**k the US Open admin that decided to post this. “tennis can take 40 mins or 4.5 hrs, thats all we meant teehee” no its not all you meant f***ing hell.”

“Men wont watch womens sports and still complain when a woman is too good and then complain if someone has one bad game its crazy,” a comment said, as an attempt to explain that the hecklers can be spotted beyond the tennis arenas but on social media posts as well.

Another fan, not being happy about the roots of this comparison, wrote, “I’m just gonna relish my faves being in the same pic because what the f**k is this asinine comparison?” There’s absolutely no way of determining the intensity levels on the basis of the duration of a match.

“Comparisons like this are unhelpful. Iga played a longer match than Novak in the last round,” a fan wrote, clearly denying the purpose behind this irrelevant comparison.

With these and several other comments on a similar note, the fans made it clear that there’s no chance of supporting such sorts of comparisons that attempt to downgrade the dignity of women’s tennis.

Iga Swiatek turns cautious about the late-night scheduling of matches

Besides the matter of duration, Novak Djokovic’s recent showdown against Lorenzo Musetti also garnered attention because of its timing. While the intense showdown was quite longer than expected, the clock hit 3:10 in the morning by the time everyone received their victor.

On being asked about her thoughts on the late-night scheduling in the ongoing tournament, Iga Swiatek didn’t seem to be satisfied at all. “It’s not easy to play and then it’s not like we’re going to fall asleep one hour after the match. Usually it takes us, like, four hours to even chill, and you need to do recovery, media. It’s not like the work ends with the match point,” she said, expressing concerns over the difficult timings.

Both Iga Swiatek and Novak Djokovic seem to be quite dominant on their respective runs. While the Serb’s recent match drew some controversies, it would be best to keep them aside and look forward to more action waiting to be unleashed in the rounds ahead.
