The American tennis star was touched by the love and attention and shared several birthday wishes on his Instagram stories. Among them was one of Broomfield’s stories, which featured the pair enjoying a boat ride together. Tiafoe added his own response to her post, simply writing, “Love you.”

The couple, who have been together for nearly a decade, share a bond that began long before the former World No.10 became one of the most recognized faces in tennis. In an interview with Essence last year, Broomfield revealed how their story started.

We both played junior tennis at a very high level. I’m from Canada, so I was playing for my country, Frances was playing for the States. And then one of our mutual friends was like, ‘Well, you guys actually would be really good friends.’ So we started talking then and became best friends for a bit. It’s been eight, nine years now. It’s been a journey,” she said.

While their relationship flourishes off the court, Tiafoe faced a challenging campaign at the 2025 Australian Open.

Frances Tiafoe’s journey at the Australian Open

As the 17th seed, Frances Tiafoe kicked off the tournament with a grueling first-round match against Arthur Rinderknech. In a match that lasted 4 hours and 8 minutes, Tiafoe fought hard to secure a five-set victory, winning 7-6 (2), 6-3, 4-6, 6-7 (4), 6-3. The match, however, was far from smooth sailing.

Tiafoe experienced significant physical distress during the match, even throwing up on court due to over-hydration. Despite the setback, his determination and resilience saw him through to the second round.

In his next match, Tiafoe faced Fabian Marozsan in another intense battle. The two traded sets, but Tiafoe ultimately fell short, losing 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-3, 4-6, 1-6 in five sets. This marked an early exit for the 27-year-old who has often struggled to find consistency at Grand Slam tournaments outside the US.

The American tennis player’s career-defining moment came at the 2022 US Open, where he upset 22-time major champion Rafael Nadal in the R16. Reflecting on that moment, Ayan Broomfield said in the aforementioned interview, “Overnight it was such a huge, huge drastic change. I think it helped that we were so close because it was a lot. It was a lot very quickly, and we were not ready for it. It was tough.”
