Nick Kyrgios has been one of the most outspoken players on the tour, especially when it comes to mental health. The Aussie ace alongside the likes of Naomi Osaka and Bianca Andreescu has been vocal about his mental issues. These players have certainly played a huge role in building awareness around mental health issues. As far as Kyrgios is concerned, he hit rock bottom four years ago. But recently, Kyrgios finds himself in a much better place. And it is down to the efforts of Costeen Hatzi. But, why is that the case? Let’s find out.

Kyrgios’ mental health improves tenfold

It was his better half Costeen Hatzi who played the most crucial role. In one of his recent Instagram stories, Kyrgios appreciated Costeen Hatzi for staying by his side through thick and thin. He said, “No matter what gets thrown (at) me she puts laughter and fun in my life” along with a picture of Hatzi. The Aussie ace has come a long way from contemplating his life and thinking of suicide back in 2019.

When Nick Kyrgios contemplated suicide

The Aussie made certain stunning revelations in the Netflix docuseries ‘Break Point. He went back to 2019, where he lost to Rafael Nadal in a close Wimbledon 2nd round encounter. Kyrgios said, “I was genuinely contemplating if I wanted to commit suicide. I woke up and my dad was sitting on the bed, full-blown crying. That was the big wake-up call for me. I was like, okay, I can’t keep doing this. I ended up in a psych ward in London to figure out my problems.”

Kyrgios had also revealed that he was wearing full sleeves to the match to cover the self-harm marks.
