So, an all-American Grand Slam quarter-final between Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton was bound to ignite all the emotions.

The country has yet to see its own men’s Slam champion since Andy Roddick‘s historic 2003 US Open run. The 20-year-long ongoing drought has united the fans and the players to root for their fellow compatriots. A certain Christopher Eubanks’ emotions ahead of this encounter sums up the American tennis fans.

Ever since the famous 2023 Wimbledon run, Eubanks has become the darling of American tennis fans. He exceeded the fans’ expectations in the grass swing by a considerable margin with that Wimbledon run and a Mallorca title. However, following his early exit, the 27-year-old is back to his roots. He often finds himself in the commentary box for the Tennis Channel. At the same time, he has shown unwavering support towards his compatriots competing in the majors.

Eubanks started his day by commentating on Coco Gauff‘s quarterfinal victory. He then went on to reveal his love for his fellow countrymen with a tweet prior to the highly-anticipated all-American clash. Eubanks said, “I’m so excited for these boys. Y’all have no idea 🥹👏🏾“. His usage of emoticons revealed his emotions, and he was also spotted in the stands for this encounter.

However, Eubanks was not the only American tennis player going emotional over the clash. A certain Coco Gauff joined him in the hype after securing her own place in the semis!

Plenty of American tennis players expressed their excitement for the clash by sharing Instagram stories ahead of it. However, some went a step further with live tweeting. Although Gauff did not tweet about the match, she shared the same thought as Eubanks by retweeting his emotionally charged message.

It has been quite a day of rollercoaster emotions for both Gauff and Eubanks since the morning. The 19-year-old considers Eubanks to be her ‘big brother’ on the circuit. The pair revisited their childhood days after Gauff’s remarkable quarter-final win and got emotional over their respective journeys. It was quite heartwarming to see the American players share such admiration for each other and also the rest of their compatriots.
