The US Open this year has had plenty of dramatic incidents, both on and off the court. Ahead of the US Open women’s finals, it was the mixed doubles championship match that infuriated fans. However, it wasn’t the on-court action that disappointed fans, but the coverage of the same by ESPN.

Amidst the hustle-bustle, the Australian tennis star, Ellen Perez, took to Twitter to highlight the concern surrounding the broadcasting of the mixed doubles final. While the match turned out to be a thriller, ESPN became an apple of discord at Flushing Meadows. Focusing on the same, Perez made a fair ask.

Taking to Twitter, Ellen Perez expressed her disappointment with the renowned broadcasting company, citing that it was unfair to not broadcast a major final at the US Open.

In her tweet, she took a dig at ESPN for not broadcasting the mixed doubles finals featuring one of the star players, Jessica Pegula. Notably, Jessica is also the doubles partner of the 2023 US Open champion Coco Gauff. Reacting to this, fans took out their frustrations while joining hands with the Australian player to slam the renowned broadcaster.

Can someone explain to me why ESPN isn’t streaming the mixed finals? Honestly, tennis coverage in general is so pathetic,” said Ellen while slamming the authorities for their negligence towards the mixed doubles finals which featured Jessica Pegula.

Reacting to this, one fan said, “I’m surprised actually, there’s a fully American team in the final after all”.

Another fan expressed his dissatisfaction while citing that they wanted to watch the final featuring Jessica Pegula. However, ESPN’s decision left them without an option. “No @espncoverage of the Mixed doubles FINAL?? Seriously… wow come on. We want to watch!!” wrote the fan.

This fan went ahead to slam ESPN, as he wrote, “@espn why oh why isn’t the mixed doubles final not being broadcast on espn+? Another important match not televised- this is a sad crime”.

This fan also highlighted the same issue by mentioning that if ESPN could have a schedule to broadcast the finals of men’s and women’s doubles, then they should have made some adjustments. Given, it was an American duo who were playing to win the title on their home soil.

Another fan went ahead to share his take, citing the fact that ESPN will be broadcasting the NFL season and thus they might fail to broadcast the women’s singles final. “Football season – I’m surprised they are going to show the women’s final,” wrote the fan.

“Sadly, a mixed final has no shot at pushing off college football on the first weekend of the season,” wrote the fan while saying that it is sad to know that college football has preference over the mixed doubles finals of the US Open.

This fan went ahead to highlight the major concern that the US is currently dealing with. “Tennis coverage on major networks in the US is a disaster. ESPN aired a high school basketball game instead of the Australian Open women’s doubles final this year,” wrote the fan.

Last, but not least, this fan gave a major sign of relief for those rooting for Jessica Pegula in the mixed doubles finals, citing that the match will be telecasted on the app even if it is not being broadcast live on television. “ESPN+ It’s on the app,” wrote the fan.

Thus, amid all the hustle and bustle, fans have been upfront about their disappointment with ESPN, as they failed to broadcast the final of the mixed doubles featuring star player, Jessica Pegula.
