The 23-year-old Canadian ATP Star, Felix Auger-Aliassime withdrew from the United Cup due to an injury. Auger was hoping to lead his country to their first triumph at the United, but will now have to watch from the sidelines as he anxiously hopes to recover before the Australian Open in two weeks. But what is troubling Auger now after being plagued by injuries this year?
Following his elimination from the French Open earlier this year in the first round, he revealed he was dealing with a shoulder injury. This time around Auger revealed that he was having issues with his knee and decided to withdraw from the United Cup.
Knee troubles for Auger ahead of Australian Open

For Auger, this season has been a pretty difficult one. He was plagued with injuries and lack of form this year. The Canadian witnessed their first-round exit in three majors and his rank dropped out of the top 25. He had won only a single title this year and was looking to start the next season on a positive note, but now he’ll have to showcase his patience.
Here’s what he said about his recent withdrawal from the ongoing United Cup. “I wanted to play [United Cup]. I came here early on the 24th getting ready. The last few days, something came up again with my knee & I started getting some pain again… I guess that’s a good thing that it’s a team event. The 2nd player can come in & play. Then I can see if later in the event I can be ready to play again,” Felix Auger-Aliassime.
His knee problems have troubled him throughout the season leading to his withdrawal from Wimbledon as he suffered first-round defeats at two other Majors.

Auger-Aliassime began competing on the professional tour at a very young age. He helped Team World win the Laver Cup, as his performance on indoor courts continued to be good. However, his win-loss record of 23-20 in 2023 was in stark contrast to the one in 2022, which stood at 60-27. Although Auger’s absence will be a blow to Team Canada they have already got a replacement in place.

Recently, the 32-year-old Canadian tennis player, Steven Diez was named as a replacement for Felix Auger-Aliassime. In 2022 he won the ATP Cup with Team Canada defeating the Spanish team. Can he yet again bring success to his nation?
