British fans have had a fine reason to celebrate lately. Jack Draper unleashed his dominance at the Stuttgart Open, taking down Matteo Berrettini in a three-setter showdown. While fans were busy celebrating the young ATP star’s win, Katie Boulter gave another reason to celebrate, securing the title in Nottingham. Everyone was expecting dedicated coverage but it seems like the British media had other things to focus on.

In their recent 25-minute coverage, Britain’s renowned news network BBC decided to highlight the affairs in the tennis world. Missing out on the topics that happened to be a moment of pride for the whole nation, they focused on Emma Raducanu‘s denial to be a part of the country’s roster at the Paris Olympics and Andy Murray’s Wimbledon final. No mention of the recent tennis success from other names.

Active journalist Chris Goldsmith recently pointed out the snub presented by BBC to yesterday’s champions. “They went to tennis news and mentioned Emma Raducanu turning down her Olympic WC and a bit about Murray final Wimbledon Nothing said about Jack Draper or Katie Boulter actually winning titles?” he wrote in a recent post on X.

This happened just hours after Emma Raducanu chose her physical well-being over the Olympics. While the country’s authority wanted to offer her one of the two slots reserved for former Grand Slam champions, she denied them, mentioning the fact that she still needs more time to heal from recent surgeries in her wrists and ankles.

“For me, it was pretty clear from the start. I’m very single-minded, I do things my own way and at my own time, whenever I want, not in a diva way, but prioritising my body and my health,” Raducanu said. “If I’m fit, if I’m giving 100 per cent, I know great things are coming. I just don’t think there’s any need to put additional stress on my body or any risks, especially with my [injury] history.”

While Jack Draper and Katie Boulter deserved praise for their immense victories, the channel didn’t even spare a moment to treat their notable achievements with a shoutout. As they have already highlighted Emma Raducanu’s update, fans have gained more intrigue about her denial.

Head of Britain’s tennis team defends Emma Raducanu’s decision

The fans were shocked to know that Emma Raducanu was turning down the opportunity to represent her nation at the Paris Olympics. While it could have meant a lot for herself and her team, she still stayed firm on her decision, prioritizing health over opportunities. Her denial wasn’t just enough to explain to fans the health concerns. As an attempt to cut down the complexities, the Head of Britain’s tennis team Iain Bates came forward to explain how it is hard for her to be in.

“I think she feels this isn’t going to be the right timing for her for this summer. She’s hopefully got many Olympics ahead of her. I’m very comfortable with the decision that she’s made,” Bates said, approving Emma Raducanu’s denial.

As the WTA star has made up her mind to skip the opportunity, Andy Murray would be compensating for the loss, as he plans to end his career soon enough, which could possibly be with this event.
