However, the Swiss Maestro’s wife Mirka saved Maria Sharapova when she was 17 from embarrassment. The five-time Grand Slam champion, after she won her first Wimbledon title, was about to face a very unfortunate situation.

In the 20-time Grand Slam champion’s biography, ‘The Master’, published in 2021, there is an instance where the Russian tennis player explained how the former world number one’s wife helped her from falling into an embarrassing situation. It happend after winning her first Wimbledon title, when she attended the champions’ dinner alongside the Swiss Maestro and his wife.
She said, “When I got up to get the trophy next to him at the ball. I remember Mirka telling me that my dress was crooked. And I was like, ‘Oh my God, I don’t want my dress crooked when I’m standing next to Roger Federer!’”
“So I was like, ‘Thank you so much, Mirka.’ I was so clueless.” the Russian tennis player added.

Further, the 35-year-old former tennis star also revealed that she was clueless about how she won Wimbledon at the age of 17. However, Mirka is not the only WTA star who has helped her to find her way on the tennis circuit. The tennis star is also grateful to the 59-time Grand Slam champion, Martina Navratilova, for her contribution to making her dream come true.
Navratilova’s early advice played a big role in Sharapova’s tennis career
Back when the former world number one was only 5 years old, she visited a tennis clinic in Moscow that was held by the American tennis legend. Subsequently, the five-year-old Sharapova’s dedication towards the game caught the eye of Martina Navratilova.
