Is Tsitsipas's fiery temper a sign of passion or a liability on the court?

Emotions are going high in Flushing Meadows. Post-match pressers are grabbing just as much attention as the matches at the US Open. In an unexpected incident, Stefanos Tsitsipas had an unpleasant moment on the court with Paula Badosa by her side. Startled at the beginning, Badosa let Tsitsipas cool down. In a recent revelation, she mentions doing something surprising to her Greek beau that spoke volumes of their relationship.

While playing mixed doubles with the Spaniard, Tsitsipas lost the match against Mexico’s Santiago Gonzalez and Giuliana Olmos by 6(3)-7(7), 6-4. During the first set of the tiebreak, Gonzalez hit a serve, but Tsitsipas gave a lackluster backhand return. Frustrated at losing the point, Tsitsipas smashed the racquet on the ground, but Badosa was caught by surprise as she looked at the other side of the court. Taken aback by Tsitsipas’ reaction, she calmly watched her beau returning to his kit bag to change the racquet.

Post-match, Badosa was asked whether she was scared of Tsitsipas’ unexpected behavior on the court, the Spaniard said, “No, you know what happens? I didn’t see it, and suddenly, he threw the racket, I didn’t expect it, honestly. But no, I didn’t get scared. I understand his situation.” She also revealed that she “scolded him,” but finally, she said, “But I completely understand his situation, and I’m there to support him, help him. I think people empathize very little, but as long as I empathize and understand him, everything is fine.

Although Badosa revealed she was just surprised by the act, viewers at home did not take Tsitsipas’ actions lightly. The Greek player was flamed left and right by tennis fans, and he did not receive any respite.

Paula Badosa’s statement proved that she will firmly stand next to Tsitsipas no matter what. While there were challenges in supporting each other, Badosa believed that she and Tsitsipas would continue to be each other’s guarding angels. The Spaniard also talked about it in detail.

Paula Badosa reveals they “suffer” while supporting each other

While Badosa was playing the match with her beau to support him directly, there were times when she and Tsitsipas showed their support from the stand. Given they are players and used to be on the court, the Greek-Spanish duo suffer while showing up for their partner’s matches.

Of course, we suffer; there are some moments I cannot even watch. It’s tough to follow it because, also, we’re used to being on the court, so we control a little bit of the situation, but from the outside, we can’t do anything. So now I understand, also, the coaches, how much they suffer outside,” Badosa said in a 2024 US Open press conference.

Previously, in July, Tsitsipas revealed that he and Badosa no longer attend each other’s matches to avoid the added tension. While Badosa was allowed to attend her beau’s matches, the ATP star confirmed refraining from it.

Despite everything, Paula Badosa’s support for Stefanos Tsitsipas echoes her profound love for her boyfriend. No matter what challenge may come, a strong bond like this might take the Greek-Spanish duo ahead as a legacy-bearer of the Agassi-Graff romance in the future.
